Vegeta’s life is so metaphorically relatable to what many of us go through. The only person your supposed to compete with IS YOURSELF to be better than you was yesterday and not caring about where anyone else. Focus on your lane in the race and the funny/sad thing is people who try to compete with others don't even realise it's a one way competition as that other person your so fixated on doesn't even view you in the same way.... Either because they are a high calibre person who competes with themselves OR they are looking at people they perceive to be at a higher level than them which they don't class you as.. This is what I love about the original ssj transformations, they required each sayian to grow some part of themselves. For goku it was his peaceful nature, sure he'd been pissed before but in my favorite rendition of the scene his eyes flash green and he says "I *will* make you suffer!" A darker, more calculated outlook he continued to utilize through the rest of Z when the situation was dire. For vegeta it was his pride, this was the first time he ever set it aside and it paved the way for him to have one of my favorite arcs capping off with his sacrifice, and later speech to goku in the buu saga. For trunks it was losing his mentor, brother figure and possibly only friend, and taking up a mantle that he was absolutely not ready for, but had to because there was no one else who could, and he succeeded. For gohan it was a trial by fire to become a physically and emotionally self sufficient person ... about 9 years too early. The transformation used to be a character growth, not just a power boost, or worse still a "tingle" Also yes, I am aware of how this video is.
@Viktor479177 ай бұрын
And Vegeta said the one thing in the video that he never said before: he didn't care about beating Goku, becoming a Super or even bothering to move on. His rage alone is what made him a Super Saiyan. From what I heard, Super Saiyan is a form based off of rage and rage alone.

"Even the simplest of moves" Does like 5 backflips in a row
@Kragatar5 жыл бұрын
In DBZ world where people fight by laying mushroom clouds and brawling at supersonic speed, backflips are basics.
I decided to rewatch this scene because of DBS: Broly. I noticed how much more impactful his descent into Super Saiyan was than most transformations in the series and started to think about why. I came to realize that the core of Super Saiyan wasn't just rage. What makes Super Saiyan meaningful is grief. At the end of the Namek saga, in History of Trunks, Broly, and even the alternate scenario from DBZ Budoukai all have something more to it than just rage. Broly helped make this especially clear thanks to the Wrathful form. Rage is simply a by-product of Super Saiyan. The trigger behind each of these transformations was grief. Goku transformed due to the permanent loss of Krillin, Trunks lost his mentor, Broly believed he killed his father, and Vegeta grieves Nappa because he sees that Nappa could never go on after Goku brutalized him. But then I thought of this scene and wanted to go back and analyze it in that context. What is Vegeta grieving in this flashback? His entire world. Not his literal entire world, but his entire worldview, his value as a person. Vegeta has been taught that his value lies in his breeding and therefore his strength since he was a child. He was a prodigy among prodigies, and that made him better than everyone else. He's a true Saiyan warrior, the pinnacle of his people, and he should always be proud. Then, Planet Vegeta is destroyed and Vegeta experiences something new. In the Freeza Force, Vegeta is tied for ninth place with fucking Cui. Freeza, Zarbon, and Dodoria treat him like a joke, and Vegeta can't even argue back lest they put him in his place. Vegeta spent 17 years and the better part of his childhood in this environment. He went from being the best to being nothing. So, Vegeta doubled down. He started scheming to beat Freeza and secure his place at the top. Then comes this kid, Raditz's weaker little brother, and he beats Vegeta strength-to-strength somehow. To Vegeta, it confirms everything Freeza ever said about him, and Vegeta can't accept that. So he goes even harder. He'll go right into an active warzone even without his tail just for a chance to get the Dragon Balls and give himself the edge he needs to beat Freeza. Of course, things don't go to plan, and even after all of his RNG manipulation, Vegeta is still powerless against Freeza. In the same spot he's been in all his life, Vegeta cries for the first time in his life, because he's so close yet still so far. Then, Goku becomes a Super Saiyan and seemingly kills Freeza. After that, Trunks shows up, turns Super Saiyan, and actually kills Freeza. Now Vegeta's being outclassed by some kid, too. So, he pushes himself, he keeps going because he can't accept that he doesn't have what it takes. He can't accept that Freeza was right about him. He works himself to the bone, putting himself through a level of training that at this point is basically just torture and isolates himself from positive influences like Bulma. When the meteor shower comes, he's half-broken, trying desperately to hold on, clinging to his lifeline in the ship. But he doesn't have what it takes. His desperation is what shot him in the foot, and that sends Vegeta spiraling. He's on the recieving end of what the Saiyan upper class has put the Saiyan peasantry through for years. Goku just has something he doesn't. Vegeta's at his wall. And he breaks. He stops trying to surpass Kakarot, he admits that he's not who he thought he was, that Freeza's taunts were true. He accepts death because his life the way he's lived it is over. He will never be the best. But that grief sets off something in Vegeta, the true source of his strength. Back in the Namek saga, Freeza laughed that Vegeta could never be a Super Saiyan, he's a pathetic conniving blueblood who thinks he deserves the universe, which held him back from being a Super Saiyan. This moment is Vegeta's first step into moving on from that, and the power that was waiting for this moment breaks out. Vegeta is able to become a Super Saiyan because he lets go. Of course, the rush of power causes him to regress, but it's Vegeta's first step to overcoming his Saiyan pride. It's a perfect part of his character arc, and it's probably the best anime-original content in Dragon Ball.

I hate to be that guy who mentions the thing everyone already knows, but that's why the tingly back explaination is so bad. Saiyans have so much potential for good character arcs so it's really sad to see them ruining all of these new cool Saiyan characters. Imagine how cool it could be if instead of Cabba just getting a death threat from Vegeta, his Super Saiyan trigger would be Frost who would betray them and maybe even kill someone that is close to him like that old man who sent him to recruit Caulifla, they would need to show a good amount of scenes with that old man so the watchers would understand their bond, but it would be so much better than what we got.

Goku had to experience the loss of someone precious to him. Vegeta hadn't cared about anyone else but himself at the time. I think what he lost was himself. In that moment, he lost his sense of purpose; he was done trying to even matter. Watching as a kid, I didn't get scenes like this at all, but as an adult, I really want to get into these characters' heads and figure out what drives them. It makes these stories much more emotional.

@@thesilvershining he seems to be the type that wants to be alone. I did read the creator said Vegeta had a one night stand with bulma because was feeling vulnerable and depressed over not being at Goku’s level. Bulma found him in that state and I think she mistook it to be loneness since she too was depressed being alone with no one and they found comfort with each other for one night But I don’t believe one night, I don’t see bulma stopping at one lol
@thesilvershining2 жыл бұрын
@@whitedragoness23 My headcanon is that Bulma truly fell for him 100% by the time that night happened, which is why Future Bulma still seems sad that Vegeta didn’t love her in return. So yeah, she wanted more than a one night stand but Vegeta was angry that it happened, mostly angry at himself for letting himself be vulnerable (aka weak) with her and purposefully pushed her away afterwards so she wouldn’t approach him again. And then pushed her and his unborn child even further away once ge became a super saiyan. He convinced himself that was all he wanted/needed and Bulma was just a one-time mistake. Despite all this you can see she still cares for him and asks more than once if Vegeta is alright and worries about him during the android and cell sagas. If it weren’t for Trunks coming back to the past and actively trying to get Vegeta to open his heart again I doubt he and Bulma would have ended up a couple. BUT the fact of the matter is this man so rarely lets himself be emotionally vulnerable, so for her to succeed in getting him to let his guard down at all really is a huge deal. To me it shows that he developed trust and admiration for her and subconsciously desired her company whether he would admit it or not. Even if he pushed her away afterwards, it still happened, and he can’t deny that. He just had to come to terms with the fact he was already changing and his old warrior lifestyle of violence and isolation would never truly fulfill him again.

@@thesilvershining I think bulma DID have very strong feelings for vegeta but after she had a child she felt like she had a special link with him because of their child. Not only that but they had a night together so an intimate moment would definitely make bulma prefer vegeta over yamcha because he went that far with her. I don’t dispute the fact he would of seen it as a weakness. And he Viewed family life with her as a weakness. And Yes bulma did show concern but I think she knew vegeta wasn’t the type to come running back to her so she was ok if he did or didn’t ( she’s a strong woman who can handle saiyan blood as vegeta once said). I think future bulma did wonder what if vegeta had lived and if he did what could of been and she got excited after she heard from trunks how positive vegeta took to him so she didn’t want to miss that one chance that she never had. Yes i do think she did love him after having his child. But was strong enough to keep going and live her life. I too thought future trunks had a impact on vegeta and really pushed him to change and he kinda did. In another interview the creator stated after vegeta legitimately fell in love with bulma after getting together with her he started a strong relationship with trunks because bulma pushes him to spend time with his son. Vegeta likes strong women so he doesn’t fight her on this. It’s been indicated in outside sources but I can’t find a legit from the author that bulma has a active *ahem* adult $ex life. Plus she keeps her self young, she keeps looking good. and unlike chi chi she works on her marriage and keeps vegeta rope in the relationship. In the English translation supposedly toriyama said bulma is the dominant one in the relationship and in control. Here’s a bonus: in the manga there’s a scene where vegeta returns with future trunks and bulm runs and hugs vegeta and he pushes her away in embrassement. He then sees her crying as she loved him and worried about him that he manages to pat her on the head (wtf?!) to show her affection back

@@thesilvershining I thought about after I rely and I think I misunderstood what you meant. So yes I have to agree she fell in love with vegeta during the one night stand. I say one night because that’s what the manga said.it’s difficult to pin point when it happened for bulma due to her being so focused with baby trunks.

'It seemed like the only thing holding my body together was my one desire: To be better...than Kakarot.' In many ways, with his various struggles of identity, crisis of faith and his quest for greatness in the face of regularly being threatened with a life of mediocrity, Vegeta is the everyman of the story, an audience surrogate. He's all of us when we come up against our seemingly insurmountable goal. And choose to achieve it no matter what.

1:32 "And when a violent electrical storm erupted in the skies of the planet I was on, I welcomed it, it seemed fitting. Like it was an outward manifestation of the storm that was raging inside of me." Currently one of my favorite lines of Vegeta.
