While maybe some of them would've been cool, that news came alongside the surprise discovery of Black Mage as the first unlockable character, so I think it was a net gain overall

i still remember the days back when the original plan was that the game would support "expansion characters" where people would make characters complete with movesets and framedata and all that, and the dev team would select some to be official expansion characters that you could seamlessly download as basically free dlc, while non-selected characters could still be downloaded in with a bit more effort It's a shame that didn't pan out, i remember some really awesome ones on the official forums back then at least the mod scene has finally kicked in, even if only slightly?
