If his son remained weak it would be a blow to his pride. He wants him to have the attitude of a Saiyan. Sure he was scared of being surpassed when he didn't know who trunks was. But after finding out he's his son it changed his view to disdain of his weaknesses. Then when trunks sent Vegeta flying Vegeta felt proud. Then when cell shot trunks Vegeta felt love and rage. When trunks came asking for help Vegeta felt shame. When trunks relaxed at seeing Vegeta's power and hearing of goku's Vegeta was angry. When trunks reassured Vegeta he would start striving to be the best Vegeta felt relief. Vegeta was teaching trunks a vital lesson.

The super saiyan rage form shows that you must have some sort of mentor to gradually maximize your potential. When we compare trunk and gohan we should not compare them from different timelines. Compare present gohan with kid trunks and future gohan with future trunks. Both present trunks and gohan despite not age gap do have the opportunity to maximize their potential due to the mentors available and technology around. Future Gohan and trunks didn't have mentors around and the capsule Corp equipment was destroyed which limited their room for improvement. I believe this rage transformation relates to training given to Trunks by the Kais. The Kais served as a temporary mentor which somewhat helped him improve and maximize his hybrid potential (this potential is not limited to Gohan, trunks and goten have it as well)

That whole nightmare he had was before he even found out Trunks was his son and when he had a giant chip on his shoulder that Goku achieved SSJ before him. Vegeta has evolved as a person and thus this nightmare is irrelevant now.

Maybe that was the case during the cell saga, but I think the Buu arc (or at least the end of the Buu Arc), the fear of Goku and Trunks being stronger is gone, for example where he admitted Goku is number 1 with a smile on his face.

Non of them can surpass goku with kaokin... even if vegeta is equal or stronger than goku in base form goku can get 20x stronger with kaokin. So he would have to initially be 20x stronger to be really equal to him.... kinda messed up since vegeta has reached these super saiyans levels just out of effort and determination.

I'm a hardcore dragon ball fan but I prefer the English over the Japanese audio. Especially Gokus kamehameha lol in English he sounds great in Japanese he sounds like a 13 year old Japanese girl lol I don't have a issue with it I've watched all episodes first in Japanese but I always prefer the English version.
