That's kinda how I was with bacon for 2/3rds of my 31 year old life. Everywhere I had bacon it was always overcooked until it was so crunchy it was like a piece of thin glass... I never liked bacon until I had some somewhere that actually didn't cook it until all the fat was cooked out of it and it was still tender. As a kid, I didn't even think I liked steak until I went camping with a friend. His dad's friend cooked me a steak medium rare, and it blew my mind. I finally understood why steak was such a delicacy.
@dodge77292 жыл бұрын
I understand what your getting at but steak isn’t really described as a delicacy, as it’s readily available pretty much anywhere, you would describe truffle or beluga or sturgeon caviar as a delicacy because they are rare and very expensive.. But a campfire steak and the process of cooking it over a fire is a rare opportunity to enjoy and one of the best ways to cook meat, as it goes back to our roots
@jaedaens2 жыл бұрын

@@jaedaens again I respectfully disagree! You can buy a steak in a supermarket for as little as 3/4£ or you can go to a high end butcher and pay up to 100s£ for Japanese wagyu beef.. So yes if you wanted you could eat steak every day and is somewhat cheaper than say fish.. Agreed thr quality of them cheaper steaks aren’t going to be the best, but to call it a delicacy! Nah it ain’t far from it.. Now the Wagyu steaks that I described maybe If like to do some research, then yes I would call these a delicacy.. When you say you don’t eat steak every day, leads me to believe that like me you enjoy a decent steak, and are quite happy to spend a bit more on a quality product, either bought in a butchers or at a decent restaurant… This as you described is a treat! (Your words) not a delicacy, say like caviar, oysters or lobster
@jaedaens2 жыл бұрын
@@dodge7729 My friend, you are cordially invited over to my house for a steak dinner. I'm certainly not one to knock a good waygu (It's honestly hard to really fuck those up), but it is not necessary for the almighty 'delicacy' designation. One could certainly use a grill, but my preference is a well-heated cast-iron skillet . In this particular case, I generally prefer a bone-in ribeye, and we're talking about from a farm that has a consistent raising regimen for the cow. A good combination of grass and corn I find to be the best, as you do want a nice marbling. Pure grass-feds tend to be a little lean (but they are still good). I like to use a laser temp sensor, and then get the pan close to 400F, but not exactly at 400, since that's the smoke point of beef tallow. Throw in some beef tallow (ideally from the same cow, although that's generally only if you're going in on some kind of quarter/half/whole cow type deal and likely rendered the fat yourself) , and take it off the heat while you coat that pan up with that delicious oil. Put it back on the heat and toss your steaks in. The great part about cast iron is that it holds its heat more efficiently when you drop those comparatively cold steaks in there. Give it about a minute a side. Keep an eye on the temperature of the oil. Keep it as close to 400 as possible. You need to check the color of the steaks. It should be nicely browned. You'll get a feel for it as you cook it more here, use your eyes and maybe nose more than a timer. You want that Malliard reaction to get the crust of the steaks extra tasty. Get your Thermapen (instant read thermometer) or equivalent, and cook it to your desired temperature (please don't cook it past medium, for God's sake). Lower temp and finish with a good butter, I like Kerrygold personally. I can make a pretty awesome steak sauce, but it's not really necessary in this case with freshly ground high-quality black peppercorns and kosher salt. Go for it if you're feeling fancy, though. Make a nice brown gravy with the drippings, and cook up some mashed potatoes (use real mashed potatoes) or rice and throw that on as a side. That, my friend, is a delicacy in my book.

I'm not even vegetarian but have been in the past. Honestly I don't really like steak all that much to begin with because compared to a lot of veggies its relatively flavorless and chewy even when borderline raw. I'm not saying I haven't had good steaks but its far from my first choice in meat. Also I'm not saying Brussel sprouts have more flavor but compared to something like a curry steak is a little underwhelming. I've only ever been disgusted by meat a few times mostly being a weird or overly meaty dish like a burger that is 80% ground beef or an extra fatty piece of porkchop.

Not true at all. Sure, there are many people who eat fast food multiple times a week and have poor health because of it, but there are also people who ingest both meats, fruits, and vegetables and maintain a healthy lifestyle while doing so. If you think that simply removing meats from your diet would make you any more healthy than someone who does it meat, you are sorely mistaken. Diet is about balance and balance can be achieved with or without meat with ease.
@alexojideagu8 жыл бұрын
utter bullshit. Vegans are far more likely to be deficient than meat eaters.
@AcidAlexx8 жыл бұрын
LMAO! Utter bullshit? Not true? So where are you facts and studies fellas? Or are you just spouting out what mommy and daddy tell you. Animal protein is hands down not meant to be consumed by humans its far too acidic and its proven we can't naturally process it so our bones deteriorate over time breaking the down and taking away certain components of our bones, thats where osteoporosis comes in to play alone with many other problems in our meat driven society. That's just the start. Not only that but it takes about 1,000 gallons of water to produce one gallon of milk, there are 250 cows to an acre on average at a farm, that same acre could produce over 100,000 pounds of vegetables. its not only about being healthy but being sustainable and not being a wasteful piece of shit like you two are. I have many other factual studies and ACTUAL evidence that supports my claims on how meat is not meant for the consumption of humans and how its unsustainable. Vegans are more likely to be deficient than meat eaters? Deficient in what PLEASE TELL ME. That's such a broad statement lmfao. You don't need meat for our survival, that is an utter and bullshit lie. AND YES SOMEONE WHO TAKES OUT MEAT FROM THEIR DIET IS ALREADY MUCH MORE LIKELY TO NOT ONLY LIVE LONGER BUT REVERSE NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THEIR BODY THROUGH YEARS OF ANIMAL PROTEIN INTAKE. Please reply if you want those studies and facts backed my scientific research not societies opinion. Yes I know health is all about balance that's common sense you think you just dropped some important knowledge, I knew that in the 3rd grade.
@AlexOjideagu28 жыл бұрын
+Herbalist You are so beyond wrong my brain is actually skull palming against my skull. Humans are TUNED to eat animal protein. We have been eating it for over 100,000 years. Fruit and vegetables are SEASONAL in nature, which means we couldn't eat them all year round in Winter and never have done until modern agriculture and importation.
@AcidAlexx8 жыл бұрын
ojideagu "Tuned" another broad un factual statement, Like really you used the word tuned?? It's funny how you're getting frustrated and I'm sitting here laughing my ass off reading your reply. Did I say all we are meant to eat is fruit and vegetables are you really that dumb to think that's what non meat eaters only eat? Where would we get our protein and other key nutrients? Let me tell you, NOT FROM MEAT. The animals you eat never started or even eat meat and somehow they survive, hmmm. You don't think far enough ahead to continue arguing. We've been believing in religion and killing people in wars for thousands of years does that make it right? Where the hell is your facts and studies? Please Please stop spouting out bullshit you've heard from people and actually provide factual evidence. That's all I ask for. You are letting your fellow meat eaters down with such weak arguments. I thought you would at least put up a better fight. Let me guess next you're going to say we developed our k9 teeth to eat meat too? Wrong those were developed for defense and that's proven through science. You see there's a reason I stopped eating meat because I actually stopped using stupid arguments and followed the science which is undeniable. You eat meat for a number of reasons, convenience, taste, and tradition. None of those reasons at all justify it. Just admit it, you don't want to change and you'll do anything to keep your delusional beliefs in tact.

I applaud him for going out of his comfort zone. I've got food texture/consistency issues, and while being a vegetarian is wholly different, I understand his reaction.
@Omizuke Жыл бұрын
The thing is that texture/consistency would be hard to give the right one to someone who don't eat meet. Because they can vary greatly, even from the same animal. I love red meat, still there are certain cuts of steaks that I find disgusting to chew. And some that I don't like how they feel in the tongue. Same with eggs, I only eat scramble eggs. Because something like a sunny side egg. The white, make me wanna puke when I feel that texture in my tongue. Still, I like eggs for breakfast, so I have to make the extra effort to get well scrambled eggs. And same goes with cheese, I hate most cheese, some I find intoxicating, the smell, like Alfredo smell bad, and Parmesan makes me cough of how strong it is, and American's taste makes me nauseous. But I like mozzarella a lot, and love pizza, and I mean, I would go to a pizza place 4-5 days a week for lunch for a couple of years, as long as it doesn't have any fancy cheese. And I'm okay with Cheddar, and tend to like chips and stuff that have cheddar. Then again, same can be said about vegetables. Some people hate them because they have try the wrong ones for them. I know people that hate some vegetables and would sit down and it a huge plate of another one.

I hate the "vegans will tell you they're vegan" joke, because honestly the only time I feel the need to speak up about it is if someone tries to come with stupid arguments at me, or if I'm eating with non-vegans and they're ordering for me/making the food. It's like if you're lactose-intolerant you will tell people who are making food for you, so they're aware. How is that "bragging" or being annoying? If someone told me they didn't eat a spesific kind of food, I would appreciate it, because then I could make something that wouldn't just go to waste.
@anne8538 жыл бұрын

Well...for starters being vegan is a choice...being lactose intolerant isn't. Secondly, it isn't fair to a group, in the case of making food. That person must make a seperation dish just for the vegan/vegetarian and those dishes aren't always cheap. In terms of ordering for you, find new friends or smack one upside the head because that's just plain rude.
@user-fg8pm8ho7q8 жыл бұрын
anne853 To most vegans? Are you kidding me? Every vegan I know in real life never told me, it wasn't until we were eating out I noticed how they didn't eat animal products. I'm pretty sure non-vegans use that joke as a way to make us feel bad about out life style.

oxowl23. I could accept that. A couple of years ago I read on the news that a woman in the U.S. was feeding her cat only plant based products, because she, herself, was a vegetarian. The cat died. So, I accept that stupidity exists.

I remember having my first piece of meat in grade 11. It was a pepperoni piece off my friends pep pizza. I'm a hunter and fisher nowadays.

You know you more blessed in a good country when you have a choice to not eat meat instead of eating what you have

GoldenYuri Not entirely true. Fruits are way more expensive than meat and you can forget about seafood, those are delicacies. Vegetables and chicken is what people live off of in poor countries. So unless you plan on just eating Veggies it is NOT cheaper.
