hole tool at 9:20 Honestly, I'd edit out or redo the video. You come off a bit defensive. I've never seen anyone take up 9 minutes of their viewer's time to talk about youtube drama or comment trolls when the video title clearly sets the expectation. Just my 2 cents. Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for the feedback. I was defensive because a lot of people disagreed with my approach in the last video. I was also defensive because I expect a lot of pushback. That's where that is coming from and I don't feel the need to address it again. Again, thanks for your comment!

Thanks to these videos I've begun building my first bunker map, although the prefabs are a pain at times (no corner pieces for the Silo bunker set, some link terribly etc), it's coming together slowly, but the entrance is awesome that's for sure. Jacob's bunker really inspired me.

That’s my favorite thing about the map editor, it takes time to learn the tools and how to properly use them, and the only way to get good with it is to screw around and build off the wall stuff until you have enough know how to put together a beautiful map

On the whole "your doing it wrong" aspect.... To hell with those trolls. I am a veteran halo forger. And I see this as a form of art. You can't tell an artist " your doing it wrong"... Smh. Keep doing what your doing, I'm learning a bunch. I now have fc5 and am going to beat the story mode first b4 I start building. And guess what... Lol.... Some might say, I'm doing it wrong... Fuk-em.. Lol...✌

Art teachers would disagree. Some basic things when it comes to art you have to learn. Like... if you are a musician you have to learn music theory first, before you start playing the piano. Or are you saying no one can tell someone that are singing out of tune that they are doing it wrong?
@omarmartinez72776 жыл бұрын
Metal Gamer lol, no... I have seen crap maps in forge... But, artistic expression can never be thought... My experience on halo, had me help make crap maps shine, without taking away from the original forger.

VegetarianZombie are the custom maps cross platform?
@MetalGamer6666 жыл бұрын
Maps are only cross platform if they are 'featured' by Ubisoft. And I think it's important to get to know all the tools properly before you can focus on artistic expression.

What are some good ways to "close off" a map? As in making sure the player doesn't see the unedited areas outside the playable zone.
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
You can set map boundaries that will respawn the person if they spend too much time outside of them. They are invisible to the player, but will provide a warning when crossed before respawning. An alternative that can be pretty fun is designing the terrain so it's too steep to climb- put little mountains around your playable area. Cliffs also work. Just make sure to playtest if you do that, because there may be a hole in your defenses. The best option is usually a combination of the two- make terrain barriers and reinforce them with map boundaries that follow them.
@cammando20576 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I know about the map boundary. My issue is more about the visuals. To give an example, I did a map that used cliff objects in conjunction with the boundary to keep players from wandering off. I originally was going to put the player spawn up high on one of the cliffs, and have them rappel down the cliff side Rainbow Six style. I was able to block off any "escape routes", for lack of a better word, but I couldn't find a way to prevent them from seeing the unedited flat areas.

I did read somewere in a comment that Ai doesn't work, or doesn't work at least well when they are placed under ground. So when a bunker is placed under ground with this hole tool then they should work well. And should the bunker be above ground but look as if if was below by lowering ground and add rocks for instance so it looks like it is below ground then the AI works fine as we know. I can only test this by uploading a testmap to Arcade which is something i don't want. So, does someone know something about this or do you maybe VegetarianZombie? Hope someone does, greetings, Leon

@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
Any idea how to make the music shift during combat? One of the featured maps (The Last of Us) had a noticeable music shift when combat started, but I haven't figured out how to replicate it. I'm on PS4, and I know the system is a bit different, but most of the tools are the same, just accessed differently and with less visible information. If you can figure it out on the PC, hopefully I can find a way to use that knowledge. Also, I do have a published map, since you asked for those. Mine is 'The Road Less Taken' by Keemonto. It's on something like version 4, 'cause I keep updating it every time I figure something new out that's applicable, but I'm pretty happy with it as is.
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
I figured this one out. Some music tracks have a combat track they automatically shift to, and some do not. I was using Theme G for my map, and it does not shift. The Last of Us was using John's theme, and it does. I haven't had time to test, but at a guess I'd suspect the ones named after main characters- John, Faith, and Jacob- all shift, while the more generic ones do not. Another interesting thing from this test is that John's music in the level sounds nothing like the preview for it. When I get a chance I'm going to test Faith's for my level (I generally like her music) and see how it sounds.
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
Also, new question. Assets are incredibly hard to search through on the PS4, while they seem like a pretty easy keyword search on the PC, so can anyone tell me if the speakers from the game (either in trucks or freestanding) that play the church's music are available in the creator? I have not been able to locate them if they are, but knowing for sure would be awesome.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but I'm told that when you create a second+ wave, you can start them in vehicles. That'd make sense in-game, because only reinforcements tend to arrive to set areas in vehicles.

I've found that all or most Enemy AI points do not work. Everyone that I remember trying was ignored by all types of enemy AI, the only ones I can get them to use are the Shared points for some reason. Which doesn't work well if you have Enemy and Allied AI mixed in an area.

On the hole tool. Sweet.. So if u build something massive, then shove it all underground, will the game let u go further down?
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
The terrain is the walkable surface. You can place objects under it, but you'll need to construct everything with objects. Basically, make it contained or the player will fall out of it. Also if the player looks up, they'll see through the terrain. Cheers!
@MetalGamer6666 жыл бұрын
That's what I do. Like the map I am working on now, I make an area of terrain roughly the size of the base of a sky scraper, then I move the skyscraper away. I build an interior on the ground. When I'm finished, I move the interior I built under ground, use the hole tool to make the interior accessible, then place the skyscraper on top. Then I used the basic shapes to make a doorway to obscure the transition area between the hole, the interior and the skyscraper.
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
That's really clever. Definitely, post a link when you're done - I'd love to check it out.
@MetalGamer6666 жыл бұрын
All right, I will. The problem is, it takes a lot of time just making a road, side walks, surrounding buildings, and a somewhat believable (I overdo it a little bit just for fun with too many skyscrapers) city around the playable part of the map, that I haven't really had time to work on the interior yet :P So it's taking longer than I thought...

Sup man¿ I have a doubt you will sure know how to solve me, How do i customize the loadout in my far cry arcade creations? I can choose weapon but not the attachments... Thanks for your content by the way💪
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
After you choose the weapon, the attachments are an option for the weapon. On PS4 you do it by selecting the weapon on the loadout menu and then pressing triangle, but given how the PC menus look in these videos I suspect that if you click on the weapon (maybe right-click on it?) it'll open a menu to mod it.

When you placed 1 house that is expensive the Memories and Textures went up indeed much, but after that when you placed the 7 others the Memorie and Texture didn't fill much more, this instead with what you said. This is because of the textures that need to be loaded, doesn't matter that much if you place 1 or 5 hourses of the same model because the textures are the same. When you check your video you will see what i mean, 1 house and the 2 meters did fill for 1/5 or so, but when you placed the 7 others they hardly did fill more. Needed to say this so mapper do understand better how they can work in a good way with there Budget! Great video's, follow them all. Leon
@MetalGamer6666 жыл бұрын
All right, I'll bite. This is not an attack of any kind, I just want to challenge your opinion and try to prove that the hole tool is simply the best way to make underground areas. Also, I was a bit confused at first - You spent so much time (over 9 minutes) defending your position that the hole tool is not any better than any other method, that I thought I had misread the title... So are you sure you want critical comments? :P First of all, I'm pretty sure the efficiency comments were about work flow and time used to make something, and not the hardware cost. Even so, the hole tool costs absolutely no resources, so it's the best option in that regard as well. I would argue that efficiency is very important for hobbyists. They usually have a job and a family/friends/partner that takes priority over spending time making bunkers in the editor, and they don't make money from doing it so it's no point in spending more time than needed on something. When I learned to use the hole tool, I could make so much more in a much shorter time. Instead of building a mountain around a house, I could just find a closed interior piece, make a hole, and slap it inside the mountain. Very efficient. You also did the whole appeal to authority fallacy, so I want to counter that by saying that Ubisoft, in all the instances I have seen, both in the campaign and in their Arcade maps, use the hole tool when making underground areas. They are the creators of the editor and the game, so I'll trust them when they think it's the most efficient way. Next, when using the hole tool, you can also make a bunch of rocks around the bunker entrance. But the advantage of using the hole tool, is that it's much easier to cover just the hole with the entrance/doorway object. So you have much more freedom to place the boulders/bushes/clutter where you want it since you don't have to fill in the whole area to obscure the bunker. With the hole tool you are more free to decorate as you want. Lastly, you don't always want boulders and clutter around the bunker/cave/underground entrance. What if it's suppose to be on a flat snow/ice surface? Or in a part of a desert without any big boulders? Or in some other place where you need the area to be clutter free? So, everyone should learn to use the hole tool, as you can do everything you can do without it, only better. That's my take on it. Have a nice day! :)

The hole tool is awful on vertical surfaces... As in the steeper it is the bigger the gap.
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
That makes. Each square probably corresponds to a section that gets increasingly bigger as the terrain gets stretched. In a tool like blender, you could add vertexs and delete that face, but we don't have that option with the editor.
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
Though you can somewhat combat that by making a small portion of your terrain jut out from the cliff/mountain/whatever and cutting a hole in that.
@dra6o0n6 жыл бұрын
It's simply annoying because wall based openings like cave seems to not work very well with this since the entire 'square' for a slope is stretched indefinitely no matter the height you set it to.
@Saitaron6 жыл бұрын
It is. The only way to make it work is make sure you jut it out enough that you want to remove the whole square. I got really frustrated with the tool, because I wanted to carve a cave into a vertical cliff, and I finally stumbled on that solution- raise about half a square in front of the cliff to the height you want the cave opening , then slice a hole in -that-, taking out the whole section and leaving a tall opening.
@MasterMedicHQ6 жыл бұрын
Should have made a different video instead of wasting half of the video talking about comment drama when most people just wanted to see the hole tutorial.
