Or just use the hole fecher in the terrain menu to put the bunker under the surface of the ground. Just sink the bunker piece down till only the door remains then just put holes under the door and boom a easyer bunker

@IsabellaaaRider6 жыл бұрын
While this way is totally okay for smaller less advanced maps I would not recommend it. I bet you the reader in this comment section has read this a hundred times but hey I just want to explain to you in detail. Alright if you want a really rocky and advanced style for the “ground” around the hatch or bunker door this works but take into mind that this takes a lot more resources and is harder to position correctly. If you do this make sure that the rock and terrain has textures somewhat similar or just use rocks for the floor but there’s really no reason to have a cave inside a bunker because that makes no sense unless the bunker was shitty and caved in or something. Any questions? If so just ask away I’ll be glad to help you guys out!

Really wish the NPC’s could be customized more. Ability to assign their load out, what they drop, how much HP they have, pathing, spawn delays, etc. Right now you’re very limited to what you can make an Npc can do which is a shame, we could be so much more creative. Pro tip: Creating a control zone and having enemies spawn some distance away from it will simulate a spawn delay. The npc will spawn and start walking in a straight line toward the control zone it’s linked to. Great way to create flanking enemies, a long wave, or spawn delays. For example the start of the map I’m making you spawn in a cabin with some people, I wanted a fight to take place here but not instantly, I wanted time for the player to look around and loot. So I just put them a certain distance away so it takes about a minute for them to approach you. Example 2: Later on after fighting to the death with a bear for a bow, you come across another cabin. Everyone is slaughtered and you must kill the remaining enemies, once you kill 2 or 3 the second wave starts. While you’re still engaged in combat a couple hunters spawn and begin walking up behind you to flank. This method of flanking the player is unpreventable unless they know the enemies will spawn there. They also do not have the chance to stealth kill them as the enemy will always see them first.

FNL 4EVA I’m hoping they underestimated the use the editor would get and that’s the reason it’s not there already. It would suck if the code just isn’t there to do it.

Wow - awesome - that's pretty much hacking the game mechanics. The only thing to keep in mind is that updates may alter or break behavior. For example, distant spawns may be removed to save resources. Just something to keep in mind. But again - great creative use of managing the editor! :D

or you can use Generic shapes and add a bunker door or a put generic shapes on top of a pipe and a ladder so you can get out of the pipe and add a curve pipe then add pipes onto the curve pipe and go into terrain and put square hill on top of the pipes like a grass bunker and after you done that the your made a diy bunker or add everything on top the pipe to match the terrain like rocks_grass etc

Brilliant video as always! This is really going to help me with my next map idea. I’m going to make a bounty hunt map where you have to hunt down a Yeti in a maze-like underground cavern, but you start off with no weapons. I’ll have 2 or 3 outposts dotted around the map which you will need to raid for supplies in order to prepare yourself for the yeti hunt, so each outpost will have a main supply room that contains a couple of weapons (AKs, Dynamite, Revolvers etc), and then a couple of hidden rooms with more powerful stuff like RPGs, pipe bombs and crates of ammo. When you feel you’re well enough equipped, you can go to the bunker door and enter the cavern to face the Yeti. I’m also hoping to make each outpost really unique in its style, like a map made of microbiomes: one outpost surrounded by jungle and heavy foliage, one in a desert with dunes, and one in an ice cavern or in the middle of a small lake maybe, then a rocky cliff-face in the centre where the Yeti cave will be :)

VegetarianZombie Thanks! Haha yep I’ve definitely learned that the hard way, never made any decent maps in previous Far Cry games as I kept getting distracted by new ideas so ended up with an incoherent mess of a map filled with half-finished designs! Anyway I’ve been grinding away at this map idea all morning and so far I’ve got the structure of the cave pretty much finished (just some extra details and hidden areas to add) and I’m making good headway with the desert outpost :)

VegetarianZombie I’ll do that, it’s coming along nicely though I’ve encountered a really odd bug, not sure if you’ve come across it? Basically I placed down a few buildings from Far Cry 4 (Small House 01 and Medium House 01, in the military housing menu), and filled them in with furniture, doors etc, then I saved the map and closed the game. When I reopened the map, those 2 buildings had been swapped with seemingly random structures from FC5 and I have no idea why, I had also used a few temple structures from FC4 but they seemed to remain in place just fine. Very strange haha :P

With the flatten tool you can make an almost 90 degree hole in the ground.. Just dig a hole with the normal height tool. Then select the flatten tool and drag from the lowest point. The ground will be perfectly flat and the wall almost 90 degree. Not sure if it's called the flatten tool. Not on my pc to check right now. It's something with level or flat...

It's funny - i had no idea there were previous versions of the editor. I've been using it for a week and learning as I go but I've been meeting all these other map makers who have been really helpful. So I'm probably been replicating their journey albeit in a public manner.
@stoat55916 жыл бұрын
VegetarianZombie- yeah don't let people tell you to "do this" or "do that" it's a fun learning experience to play and master the map editor. Plus, your video's title said "using Objects" not Terrain, so I don't see why there's alot of fuss over it?
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man - I appreciate it. I can understand it in a way. It's the "somebody said something wrong on the internet" mentality. But still, from the ten thousand foot view - players aren't going to care whether you used a hole tool or build your landscape from objects. They want fun interesting levels. But the original title was "How to Build Underground Bunkers" and based on the reaction, I changed the name and title. I'll be creating a follow-up video when I get back in town. Again, thanks for the nice note. Cheers!

Open view / budget and you can see where you are using all the memory. That way, you can remove things. As for deleting terrain, I don't think that's possible but I'm guessing that's not the cause of your bottleneck.

I tell you, Veg, I can hardly watch these videos because this looks so fun, interesting, and creative. As you know my CPU could not handle such a heavy demanding program. And I really can't do it vicariously as the explaining is hard to listen to, and not because it unhelpful, but because all this asset placement, making sure there is no clipping, making sure the map works correctly, is something I use to do a long time ago. Sim City, RPG Maker, Game Maker, Sims; recently Doom 2016, and so-on-and-so-forth. As for the content of the video, it is well done and I like the approach to building the land up around the "hole" you are going to set the bunker in, rather than just digging a hole and placing one. It's easier to outline a hole than just dig one. The only thing I will critique is that it would be nice to see you working off a custom map that you have created already, a fully populated playground rather than just the checkerboard terrain all the time. A map that you have worked on before that you can see other lessons from. That way, when the map is fully done, and you have finished the "class" you have a fully functioning product when done.
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Obs! I really love hearing your feedback. I'd love to see what kind of map you'd make in this game. Or play maps you made other games. You definitely have a very discerning eye. Just started becoming familiar with the editor, and your videos have helped a lot. I am now sub'd. I have run into an issue that I have not been able to find an answer. The issue is when I place objects, for example the "burial mound entrance" or other burial objects, they don't appear as a solid on some of the sides--in other words I can see through some of the sides. This is so annoying and is a show stopper for what I want to build. Any thoughts, recommendations, help, etc is greatly appreciated!!!

Hey everyone - thanks for the feedback. My intentions were different from your expectations. I was trying to show how objects could be used to construct terrain which is why I created a tunnel at the end of the video. Evidently from all the comments, I should have tried a different approach. I'll show this different approach in another video. But here's the thing - the end result - the player's experience - is that matters to me. If that bothers you, make your own channel and tell me I'm wrong. I won't watch it, but if it makes you feel better, have at it. I'm at a conference now, but I'll produce a follow-up next week. Just a few things - my channel isn't a place to advertise your own channel or other people's channels. I'll remove those comments and if you can continue to make them, I'll mute your comments like any old spammer because really, that's what you are doing. Long story short - I hear you. Thanks for your feedback - I really do appreciate it. Be respectful. All the best.

Thanks! I'm glad they've been helpful. I'm not sure if it applies to your situation. I'd have to see it what you are building. Basically, the idea behind this tutorial is to use objects not just for decoration but as another way to build surfaces or even enclosures for the player to traverse. For instance, you could build your entire level out of objects and not once touch the terrain tool. I hope that helps!

I was hoping there'd be a way to tunnel through the side of a Mountain, so you could say have a road going under a mountain that has say a light house on top of it or something like that, but I guess that's not possible, so far just like you did Rocks seems to be the only way to hide underground areas, which kind of sucks, maybe after I start my next map I'll find a way to make underground tunnels, was going to go for a Metro style map and have subway stations under the map and the above map your run of the mill Apocalyptic wasteland, but not sure that's possible.
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
yes, you could create a mountain out of rocks with a tunnel under it but that might use up your budget of objects. Maybe there's a different way to produce the same effect? Definitely play around and let me know what you find! Cheers!
@alecbrady84996 жыл бұрын
If u raise the floor on the sides of the tunnel entrance and place rocks over the entrance, that will cover the gap and give u a higher platform to place the lighthouse on the top. It might not be a good playground but would make a good scenic background.

It's always good to read what others have written. If it's obvious to you, then it's probably been covered by someone else. Especially in a video with 100+ comments.

I accidentally deleted the thing where you select and place the objects, so I can't place anything. Anyone know how to get that back?
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
Check the view menu option. There may be option called objects.
@ogfunctionn6 жыл бұрын
Its just object preferences, not the actual object placement, which pops up when you select what objects you want (Agricultural, AC, FC5/FC4, etc)

What's the point of the hole tool then? I realize I have to do it the way you did in the video in order to validate it but I just don't understand the point of having the hole tool?
@CanadianJedi6 жыл бұрын
Protrainer 7 you can validate with a hole tool. It gives you a yellow warning saying something is below the surface but it's not a red warning which doesn't allow validation. It's just letting you know something is below in case it was an accident

What the Canadian said, I actually made a map with the hole tool and it published no problem.

This is not the best way!!!
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
There are lots of ways - the key point in all of this is that you can use objects as building surfaces instead of relying on the terrain generator.

The other thng to consider - the player won't care whether you used the hole tool or not.
@xorxpert6 жыл бұрын
But you need to consider that, this isn’t the best/fastest way.
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
Why I do I NEED to consider that? All you people tell me why I NEED to consider something but you never tell me why I should WANT to consider it. That's something you should want to consider when leaving a comment because the responder will more likely consider what you have to say as opposed to automatically dismissing you. My god - from the tone of all these comments, you'd think this is a tutorial on open heart surgery instead of Far Cry map making.

VegetarianZombie what? sorry your English is bad. Bye 👋 as I don’t care. All I said was reconsider, due to this is not efficient with time. Sad you’re brainwashing all these people with low knowledge crap, that could be done better. I make and design games. We get more advanced than this.

How does one rotate objects
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
Press the 3 key and then select an axis. I cover it in another video.

Or just use the “hole” option in the terrain menu and make your life way easier. This tutorial is more work than the real actual way to do this.

Ah yes, the hole tool. You'll be the 30th or 40th person to tell me that. So, um, thanks.

If your intentions were to show how to use objects you should probably rename the video because hole tool is a thing...

How do I have enemy cars
@VegetarianZombie6 жыл бұрын
I believe you'll need to put a move and defend control zone around the vehicle and AI. I've head other people put the ai above the vehicle so that they fall into it. I've never tried either approach so your mileage will vary.

dude, why would you ever put rocks into a space where they can't be seen? it makes no sense.inside the bunker, you can't see outside anyway. Just use the terrain to cover everythimg but the entrance and then use the hole tool to punch a hole where the hatch is.
