We are very excited about the Contact Organics (www.contactorganics.com) environmentally friendly herbicide. Most of the other environmentally friendly products struggled to work effectively. I am very pleased to see this product absolutely burn down 95% of what we spray it on the first time. We highlighted the species that we see in this area (silverleaf, croton, pigweed, maximillian sunflower etc.). Just like any other herbicide, traditional or non-traditional, you will have to reapply eventually. We will be testing this product to see if the application window widens between applications ultimately reducing the out of pocket cost and frequency of application.
We are seeing earthworm activity in the soil where we applied this product. This would not be seen in the soil of a traditional herbicide application site. We will shoot additional video over the next week and provide a follow-on to this session. We have multiple test sites running in Texas and Oregon to see with our own eyes how the product works in different soil, temperature, and species.
It is important to use the flood nozzle recommended by the manufacturer. The out of the box nozzles do not provide enough coverage of the leaf surface. You may need a different nut cap for the wand to accommodate the recommended nozzle. The Husqvarna and Chapin backpack sprayers do come with the correct nut cap.
*Note* This product is not currently cost effective for use in large agriculture settings. It works well for landscape management of fence lines, structures, and places where children play.
