I dropped a nut into the frame rail of my jeep, I know I'm never seeing it again. I don't blame myself, who thinks its a good idea to put a nut in the frame rail in the first place. Its just an accident waiting to happen. I was even ready, had my magnet pen next to the nut just in case it wanted to run away on me, and sneaked passed anyway.

I had a pontiac silhouette for a company vehicle. LOVED it....remote opening side doors, plenty of room, if I was on a long road trip lots of sleeping area in the back (shipping blankets make great mattress pads)....I went to NH with a buddy and got stopped on the highway for 5 hrs due to a bad accident, opened the side door, put on the tunes, got out the cooler and frisbees, had a great time.

GM X bodies (Citation) used to suffer from this when cold, called it power steering morning sickness. The spool valve (steel) would wear its housing (aluminum) and not want to function until the fluid was warm. Then you could turn both directions. Not sure why this one binds all the time in one direction, but something in the hydraulics is unhappy.

im currently in the process of doing a complete frontend rebuild on my 85 chevy c10, upper and lower control arms, anti sway bar, inner and outer tierods with tierod sleeves, idler arm, pitman arm, springs, bushings, ball joints, everything. the old parts are the oem parts, its never been serviced, everything is 36 years old, all the ball joints were super loose in their sockets, i really dont know how the frontend hasnt given up yet, none of it wanted to come apart, took me 3 days just to do the 4 upper control arms and the 2 springs, im in the middle of the steering now, the 2 upper ball joints were assembled without carter pins despite being castle nut setups. the new oem springs lifted the frontend almost 2 inches and stiffened it up a ton, upgraded from stamped steel to tubular arms with poly bushings, upgraded the rear spring bushings to poly as well

My 1991 Chevy G20 the steering got intermittently stiff and got worse over a few weeks. The culprit was a U-joint in the steering shaft. These vans have two, one at the box and one closer to the firewall. It must have been a known problem because in 92 or 93 GM added a sleeve over the end of the shaft and those are always clean inside. Of course they also changed the length of the shaft sections so you can't swap one to the older ones. I still have a spare I pulled when I was in North Carolina just to have on hand if I ever needed another.

If the seals in the rack fail in just the right way you can have a car that will turn left or right without you even touching the wheel. Sometimes when you try to turn in one direction they will violently turn all the way in that direction or even the opposite. Boeing had a few airplanes that wanted to try that trick.
