Vehicle Scrapping Process in India | Tata Motors ReWiRe Facility in Delhi | Vehicle Scrap Policy 2024
Tata Motors Limited has opened a Registered Vehicle Scrappage Facility in Delhi, which has been named Rewire. Here you can scrap passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands. The infrastructure here has not only been prepared as per the rules of scrappage policy but will also be made IT enabled for supply, demand and operation linkages.
This facility has been specially designed by a French consulting firm. It has been built on a total of 5 acres, which has 35000sq.ft. There is a shed area where about 15 thousand passenger and commercial vehicles can be de-polluted and dismantled in a year.
The question arises that what is the need to scrap old vehicles? Let me tell you some figures
A 15 year old truck or car emits 4 to 6 times more CO2 than a new truck/car.
Scrapping such almost end-of-life vehicles will reduce vehicle emissions in the country by 15-20%.
Let us tell you that as per the scrappage policy, passenger vehicles require valid fitness for re-registration after 15 years and in case of commercial vehicles, this will have to be done every 2 years and annually after 8 years. If the vehicle is found unfit during re-registration, it is scrapped.
