Vehicle Will Not Start After Alternator, Battery Replacement

This is a no crank, no start situation. It was obvious after they told me the cable sparked, but may not be obvious for some people. Also tested my soldering skills.

Having said that, I tried reconditioning them and it took me less than an hour to acheive it! No matter what type of battery you like, the procedure will work.

Great tip! Fusible links are easily overlooked. Had a new one come up on me recently. I was helping a friend with a slow crank issue. Battery was new, good voltage. Starter was new. pulled it and bench tested it anyhow. Tested fine. Still was cranking to slow to start. Finally, I took some jumper cables and ran them from the battery straight to the starter, bypassing everything. _Still_ cranking slow. Spent all day beating my head against the concrete and shot craps. Retreated home to rethink this. Couple of days later, saw her driving around town. Asked her what the problem was and she said the AC compressor. Once she disconnected the AC belt, the engine cranked right up. I'm not a pro, but I've had my head under the hood for a few decades now. Never seen an AC drag an engine down that far before.

I replace the alternator and unfortunately it's just like you had said it blew the alternator fuse cuz they didn't disconnect the battery so we replaced the fuse but my car still will not start can you tell me what possibly could be wrong I'm waiting for a mechanic to come by but he hasn't yet and I really need my car

Well I had to get the alternator changed..

I have changed mine 3 times. But what I did was take out the whole wire Harnis and I followed the wire the the square box above the engine. There is a ground wire connected to it. I took it out and it was all green and dirty. And I think that might be the problem

I have a quick question I have a 2006 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6 I replace the alternator and battery myself with no issues I had alternator tested and it failed battery was bad I also replace harmonic balancer last year after all of that said it will only start off a jump it runs like a top no lights pop up check engine battery charging system no alerts popped up I got it back home shut it off went to start it again and it's just making a clicking sound like the battery is dead again a check the voltage on battery and alternator is fine I'm at a loss my friend any suggestions I also checked the fuses didn't find any blown fuses

I'm all out of ideas and i really need some help. Starter gave out and me needing to get to work i pushed it until the damn thing start smoking. Not sure where the smoke came from. I got the battery tested and it's good. I changed the starter relay out for a new one, and i replaced the starter. Still no luck. It just isn't cranking. It's not even clicking. I just had the alternator replaced on my 2004 Maxima but the car is not the same. It’s shaking and the check engine light came on. When I went to pick it up at the Goodyear shop he asked if I had smelled smoke. I said of course not. The car’s brake and battery light went on and then it died on me and that’s why I had it towed to Goodyear. By the way they charged me $700 to change alternator. 😢 I know this doesn’t cost so much. He said some wires were melted behind the engine. I took my car home because I don’t know what they did. Again my car died on me in the street and there was some smoke and burning smell. I had to have it towed to another shop. I got 3 codes for the check engine: P0303, P1615, P1610. Can someone please give me advice and tell me what went wrong? I don’t know what to do. I’m so upset 😢 I love my car but I have spent so much already. I can’t find an experienced mechanic who is honest. Is the new alternator causing the issue? Is it electrical? Hope someone can help. I would really appreciate it.

I HAVE A QUESTION; I didn’t have any problems with my alternator. But due to my car dieing found out that I need a new battery (other real old). Went to locate shop got and they installed a new battery about a month go. Due to my battery light indictor turning on I took it back to the same shop and was told first that it was a battery which they would place for free and that I need an alternator too.... when I questioned that it then I was told the battery was good it’s the alternator. My question is if I didn’t have a problem with alternator prior to them installing a “new” battery it’s what the first guy said that that the new battery they gave me with bad and messed up my alternator???

To start with the truck engine worked fine but the headlights were flickering and we were told it was the alternator so we replaced the alternator. After replacing alternator the truck will not even turn over and some of the lights and the door dinger won't work. Thought might have defective alternator so placed old alternator back on. Still nothing. Have checked all the cables and the fuses. As far as we know everything there is fine. Turn the key dashboard lights come on you hear the click the fuel pump hum and no crank of motor nothing happens. Help!

Hey man I had a similar problem too! My car was misfiring so I got a complete tune up on my 1984 Crown Vic LTD. It would start before until I did the tune up and then it would crank but no start. My problem was my timing was messed up! So maybe check your timing

@@blueskye6372 If it's not the battery nor alternator, check the fuses. Had the same issue for the past days, got a new battery, changed alternator three times but kept happening so I went and rechecked all the fuses, turned out a #10 was blown. Replaced it and have the truck outside running now. Hopefully that's the issue as it's an easy fix. Note:get the fuse set that includes the tester thingy.
