My mom just bought a base Envista on my recommendation, I always recommend GM first due to parts availability and parts pricing, and how easy it is to find mechanics to work on them. Even though we get a lot of snow, nobody in my family has ever owned an AWD car. Only FWD and RWD. It really isn't necessary if you have good tires and know how to drive. The base Envista is the one I would always recommend due to the 17 inch wheels and non low profile tires. All terrain tires are available to fit the base Envista and should be decent in the snow with them.

Envista for me. The lower power numbers on the Envista are a bit misleading because the vehicle is a lightweight, at its heaviest trim it's about the same if not lighter than the lightest HR-V. It doesn't need the same power to match the acceleration of other vehicles in its class. Don't get me wrong, it's not fast, but it's quick. Biggest question mark with the Envista is the engine longevity. If it's anything like the 1.4T, there shouldn't be any abnormal issues. Those motors have average reliability. Taken care of they will hit 200k before major issues, abused about 150k before having major issues. But no doubt being forced air induction it will be more prone to wear than any natural aspirated motor, regardless of manufacturer. I will say though, that 3 cylinder engine sounds pretty darn good at open throttle. Long story short, the HR-V is the safe option. The Envista is the exciting option. For my money I'm buying the Envista and trying to pay it off early.

The concept of a CVT in part is when you get to your cruising speed, the engine can run at the lowest possible RPM range. In a convential automatic, an engine may run a 2000 rpm at 45mph...2200 rmp at 50 mph, 2400 rpm at 55, and then any higher it drops back down to 2000 rpm at 60 when it can go into the next higher gear. In a CVT, with seemingly 'infinite' gears, no matter what your speed, 45mph, 50 mph, the transmission will eventually adjust to the gear that allows for the lowerst posssible RPM at ANY speed (2000 rpm in this case).

The space between the rear of the car and where the rear window starts. There is a big difference for sure if you ever drove a sedan vs an SUV on a snow or even wet road.. In most sedans, the trunk provides space between the back of the car and the rear window. That area is big enough to prevent the spray/mist the car makes from covering the rear window. Drive a sedan on a slush/salt covered road and then drive an SUV on the same road where the window is right at the rear of the vehicle, and you will see the difference in a couple of seconds. Most sedans, the rear window 'starts' at least a foot, in many cases much more than that, from the rear of the vehicle, in the Envista, its a matter of inches.@@henrytenden

Envista gets my vote. Much better/newer looking! No CVT. Much nicer up to date upscale looking dash. No CVT. Buick designers came up with a winner there. I've had mostly Cadillacs the last 15 years and had no issues at all I like GM. 100% Envista wins my vote...oh and no CVT.

If only the content were accurate. The Buick has a THREE cylinder engine. As well, not mentioned, the Buick has direct injection (bad for carbon on intake valve) and the Honda has multiport fuel injection!

I’ve heard too many gripes from HRV owners about the lack of power. Additionally, the infotainment screen in the Honda is lacking and looks clunky. Update: I did take the Honda for a test drive. The engine was very disappointing and noisy. The car lacked sophistication and the ride was stiff. Too much road and cabin noise. I’ve owned five Honda’s. I would not buy an HRV.

I can't see much of a difference between vehicles anymore, they're all similar in their different subgroups. What bothers me as a consumer, and what I will make a purchase decision on, is color. Cars used to have colors... greens, gold, rootbeer brown, different blues, etc. Nowadays cars are white, black, charcoal gray, silver, dark blue, or dark red. When I see orange, yellow, etc... those are the cars I want to drive. A car is basically a box with seats, wheels, and a steering column that goes from Point A to Point B. Most members of each subgroup get similar mpg, which bring up my second buying attraction: mpg. If a car like Prius gets 58 mpg why would I buy a car that gets 24 mpg?
@ajayvpai Жыл бұрын
Prius gets 58 MPG with bad driving. Good driving and smart use of hybrid features gets more than 75 MPG for sure. However, i do have a HRV as well and the MPG in city is about 34 combined,

@theodorgiosan2570 Жыл бұрын
See I am the opposite way, I always pick GM over everything else. Parts availability, parts cost, and availability of mechanics to work on them. My boyfriend has a Honda Fit. Nobody in the local area will touch it for a valve adjustment for example. Honda dealer won't work on it because it's "too old" (2008). Any mechanic here will work on any GM car. An entire engine often costs less than doing brakes on other cars. And in this case, the engine has been around since 2018 in other markets with no major issues. Don't confuse it with the 1.2 Puretech used in Opels. Different engine designed by Peugeot with a ton of issues. This is the 1.2 LIH which as far as I have seen is rock solid. And the car is much lighter than the HRV. My mom bought one and really it's incredible, from my perspective as a mechanic. So easy to work on (for a modern car), with plenty of room around the engine.

Honda hands down. Proven reliability for decades. Doesn't have a tiny engine with a turbo that wears it out and unreliable, quirky cvt. The honda is Practical and legendary reliability. The Bruick has a turbulent history of shoddy reliability and is a Johnny come lately on all levels. It's a Gov vehicle that's still trying to compete and cutting corners to do so like they've always been. I can't imagine anyone who'd want to own a vehicle from a company that went bankrupt. It tells you a lot about the management, production, and people who drive them. Buick is next in line and will follow Pontiac, Oldsmobile and saturn.
@KS-lx7vo9 ай бұрын
Only problem I see with the Honda HRV is the lack of power from the anemic 2.0 liter engine with the cvt. They did a great job with everything else on it but that’s probably the main reason the HRV never made the top of the list for the best sub compact suv. They should have put in the 1.5 turbo! If they did it would absolutely beat Kia/Hyundai and Mazda

3 cylinder GM turbo vs 4 Cylinder Honda…there is really no decision, naturally aspirated Honda wins every time. The GM is also more expensive if dealers are selling at maroon. The engine in the Buick is a 1.2 three cylinder turbo not a 4 cylinder. It jumps around like a paint mixer. There is no way this thing will be reliable. Other testers got 23 mpg in real world testing. This poor little thing is stressed to the max. Is it no wonder no reviewer will ever video a running engine. Love the car except for the engine.

The Envista has a twin - the Chevy Trax both are made in Korea. Chevy Trax had a bad reputation, so GM stopped making for 2 or 3 years. The Envista is a better looking vehicle, the Trax is a few bucks cheaper -My Chevy dealer told me if I purchased the Envista his Chevy service dept can and will work on it (same parts?) - I would opt for the Envista.
