வேளச்சேரி பரங்கிமலை பறக்கும் பாதை திட்டம் aka velachery st thomas mount mrts is one of the longest ongoing infrastructure projects in chennai
The project route covers velachery mrts railway station, adambakkam mrts railway station, puzhuthivakkam mrts railway station
chennai mrts which is recently over taken by chennai metro rail project did start from chennai beach railway station to mylapore mrts railway station and was extended till velachery
Later, it was decided to connect the velachery railway station to st thomas mount railway station
St. Thomas Mount railway station connects three routes of trains in chennai

Nicely presented...👍 In my opinion, the main cause for the delay is - land acquisition and is primarily: politically driven.! To, my knowledge, there have been. 2 compensation awards at different periods; especially during 2014-16, the award was considerably fair, around ~₹8400+ which was well above the market then. The State govt. didn't release the award to the land owners properly/ deliberately and driven the land owners to move Court. Now, the Management system & revenue sharing formula is reworked, things are moving. So, the delay is purely due to the non-cooperation of the State govt. agencies and the Primary loser is Railways. Whatever be the causes: the ultimate losers are : we THE TAX PAYERS.!!!

Good Update and great infos detailing . because of this delay whole mrts route passenger traffic is sluggish. time waste, fuel waste has to be also calculated( for 12 years for Mount to Velachery vehicle travel) . also they will not even think of extending the service to admabakkam till the last mile is connected.. No plan B mindset.

If they had paid the compensation as demanded by the displaced residents, they could have saved the overrun in the project and enhanced project cost. If passenger services had been commenced in the completed portions, it would have met the need of the people in the contiguous areas besides generating revenue for the government. All these MRTS stations are ill maintained and there is a general decay in the facilities created at considerable cost. All these sprawling stations could have been used for revenue generation by allowing shops and establishments to commercially use these premises. This would have ensured proper maintenance and upkeep of these facilities. It will be expedient to hand over management of these facilities to Chennai Metro as there is already a proposal to do so.

Did the land owners get 12500 per sq. ft, is their wait worth it. 10+ years even the 8000 Rs sq. ft could have doubled (or) tripled if invested. Few people's greed stalled a key project in the city.

Actually they would have planned for a separate MRTS line from Velachery to Tambaram instead of this Link. Stretch in between Velachery & Tambaram would have been much benefited and it would have been an additional line from Chennai Beach to Tambaram. But the current project linking Velachery & St. Thomas Mount is good for CMRL only.

Excellent video coverage with valuable information given by you. At least Southern Railway can run MRTS Services Between Velachery and Adambakkam AS both Adambakkam and Puzhuthivakkam stations are completed. Track laying electrification work all over. These two stations are now idle. If this route is started Railways can generate more revenue on this Stretch. Let us hop some positive decision is taken in this regard.

I would request the railways to start immediately the train service from Velacheri to Adambakkam with out any further delay. Because it would increase the revenue for the government to finish the balance work on this line.

This MRTS extension stretch from Velachery to St. Thomas mount is so critical as it connects the Green Line of Chennai Metro and the Suburban line from Chennai Beach station to Tambaram. Please complete this before merger with Chennai Metro. TN CM please help.

Having spent in Crores for the completion of Puzhuthivakkam and Adambakkam so far, it is dead capital now for the last 3-4 years. Railway can get huge extra revenue by extension of services upto Adambakkam... 2 more station... Tax payers money is wasted. Railway southern division GM and Railway Minister salary to be cut prorata atleast now onwards

The project cost escalation due to delay and deferment , may be for some private players gains. The project should be started only after land acquisition is cleared and taken possession of. The loss due to unutilised infra invest will cause dent in the projected revenue. It’s a sordid state of disuse and sinking valuable cash into unproductive investments

As of Mar 18 2023 only 82% land acquisition was completed by CHENNAI METRO in phase 2. Who knows what will happen in the near future?

They cheated the land owners as they are mostly from a particular community, state government lacked focus unlike Chandrababu Naidu did for Hyderabad

It has nothing to do with community, a fair valuation and compromise might have saved atleast 100 Crores and earned lot of revenue for Railways . Alternatively as Raghuram Rajan says government should take over unilaterally like Chandrababu Naidu did in Hyderabad and like Chinese government, in the end every one loses
