Hey guys! Thanks so much for checking out our latest collab. If you want a story not written like garbage, make sure you check out my book's website! orphanveil.com/ It's getting really close to done, like weeks away, and this thing means the world to me. So if even a few of you check it out I'd be ever grateful.

For some reason it feels like Velma originally wasn’t a scooby-doo show at first. Like I believe that it started out as something completely different but when they brought it to execs they believed it wouldn’t be marketable enough. So they attached an already existing product so it can have longevity. I think the saddest thing for me when it comes to this show is how good the animation is. With all the negatives I have for this show, I can truly appreciate the animation as there are some frames in the show I like. It sucks their talents will mostly go unnoticed because of how bad the show is.

There's even nuance to it as well. Word of god said they were writing Velma in Mystery Inc to be a Lesbian. But in trying to deny her nature, it forcing shit with Shaggy super hard. Of course it comes off stilted, it's a square peg, round hole situation. Add in Shaggy already has a best friend in the form of Scooby. And eventually learnt to accept things. In Velma, she's displayed as fully Bi, but despite being depicted in show as "The ugly one" some how gets two of the hottest people to fall head over heels for her. And "Norville" was wanting to be with her from the word go and did so much for this literal trash goblin that she kept throwing it back in his face. And eventually even after being the worse human imaginable comes crawling back to save the day. If this Velma was in Mystery Inc, Scooby, all day.

Good writing can save bad animation. But good animation cannot save bad writing. The Emoji Movie has good animation. Doesn’t stop it from being one of the worst animated films of all time. Meanwhile, BoJack Horseman has super stiff and cheap animation most of the time, but it more than makes up for it by being one of the best-written shows of all time. You can also see this in live action. The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy looks absolutely breathtaking in visuals and sound, but the story is mostly weaksauce (except for The Last Jedi, which is the only sequel I liked, and I really loved it).

I agree with the whole “don’t hate-watch” thing but there’s a high chance that the numbers used to declare the show #1 were fudged. Also Season 2 was announced shortly after the first pair of episodes, indicating the likelihood that Season 2 was already in the works and they just needed a high horse to justify it with, hence the boastful announcements.
@NEEDbacon

And lets say, even if the first couple of episodes did do numbers cause people wanted to see the shit show after watching the Last of Us show (apparently it's alright, go figure). I'm not even woke (far from it!) and from where I stand, you've been getting hurt for a while. What exactly did trash like _High Guardian Spice_ do for you? Last of Us 2? Captain Marvel? Masters of the Universe? The Last Jedi? Captain America: Steve Rogers? (The one where Captain America was revealed to be a Hydra agent all along, except not really, except yes really because it was retconned in universe by a cosmic cube which _absolutely_ has that kind of power...) All these and many more serve to make wokies look like petty, thin-skinned, infantile lunatics living in a deranged alternate reality wholly out of phase with the rest of us. And maybe you are (all those writers and shill reviewers had to come from somewhere...) but it's not entirely fair to _assume_ that when more likely it's all just a bunch of out of touch bougie marxists from New York and California, a notorious breeding ground for out of touch bougie marxists. If anything, I'm shocked it took _Velma_ to set off your gag reflex. All I'd ask now is that you look across the aisle and see that my side isn't motivated by ists and isms like you might have thought. Maybe we just don't like bad storytelling. Maybe we actually realized that something like Velma was inevitable once sloppy storytelling, cringe pandering, and godawful humor sufficiently lowered everybody's standards. Maybe we knew all this woke irreverence was paving the road to destruction of something actually worth preserving. Maybe you've been told to hate my side for reasons that are complete bull. Consider that, and I'll _try_ to be less smug about how right I was. ...Or prove me right and let this go in one ear and out the other, and we can go back to our regularly-scheduled routine of hating each other. I know what _I_ think will happen. Your standards aren't the only ones to have been lowered...

Mindy Kaling really could have save herself the embarrassment of making one of the worst productions involving a beloved IP by just visiting a shrink.

What I hate the most nowadays in media is - while there are some creators out there trying to make the best story they can from various media such as video games, books, TV shows - there are also some creators that make some of the worst sh*t you’ve ever seen by either thinking what they wrote is some kind of masterpiece or straight up not caring making a good show. I know you said in one of your videos watching terrible story Is a good way to cultivate yourself, but I also think having good shows in general - such as Gravity Falls, Amphibia, The Owl House, Puss In Boots The Last Wish, The Lego Movie, Wall-E, or video games such as UT/DR, The Zelda series, Fire Emblem, Omari, Night in the Woods and more - is way better in general for the audience. Oh ! And also for Velma getting a second season, it was actually already planned to get green light however the show was good or not: it is apparently something HBO Max does.

The idea of adult animation and comics is definitely a different standard to what Japan considers "aimed towards adults". You have manga like Yotsuba and Chi's sweet home that are perfectly suitable for children to read, but are aimed at adults still. I really don't know why American creators and studios seem to think that "adult" equates with "overly edgy jokes and objectionable material and characters that are mean and cynical just for the sake of it"

I'm not entirely sure hate watching is fully to blame, since discussion of this show dropped off of a cliff when episodes 5 and 6 came out. Even the channels I watch that do episode reviews of shows gave up after episode 4, and since the show released 2 episodes a week, it only had 2 weeks in the spotlight. I do find it fucking HILARIOUS that they bragged about being the number 1 hbo max animated original, when there are no other hbo max animated originals, and all that have existed were barely ever talked about save for close enough, and even then. Season 2 was announced days after the first episodes' premiere, so I sorta think it was always gonna get a second season. I will say, I do think it's bad to talk about shows like this, because a.) easy money but b.) twitter discussion does not lead to real viewers. Companies have made the mistake of thinking that online discussion perfectly translates to real life costumers when that never has been and never will be the case. Just let season 2 come and go and then it'll be left to rot in the sands of time. Great video as always, you two together are great!

With the Nielsen ratings in, I'm starting to doubt the official line that Velma is even getting that many views. I honestly think this is a "fake it till you make it" situation where the company already blew all its money making two seasons and is now just lying to themselves and their shareholders that they didn't royally fuck up.

8:20 the worst part of this joke (first joke, meta humor) is that it goes on for 2 minutes and is followed up by another meta joke and it leads into the actual plot. Not only was it bad, but it was the fight over the meta joke that progressed the plot.
