Didn’t get a rollback, but got stopped on the 2nd launch once. Can confirm that launch hits so much harder trying to hit speed from a near stop vs rolling through like normal.

It’s so satisfying to see a rollback on Velicicoaster. They are very common on Intamins. Fear folks. Rollbacks are more common than you think they are and are not a big deal. The train is re-launched and the guests exit as usual. The ride is equipped with anti-rollback devices that is meant to stop the train should such event occur. And the maintenance staff test these brakes every day before the park opens.

The reason it likely happened is because the track was cooler, applying more friction, which makes the molecules in the track move less and come together, resulting in a rollback because the train didn't have enough speed. When the track is warm, the molecules are more spread out and moving faster, applying less friction, which is intended by the designers of the coaster. Then that results in the coaster being able to go over the top hat.

Thank you for the info. It was around noon when filmed and I can tell you it was already 100 degrees with the real feel. Would it still need more heat?

Or the block ahead was still occupied and the launch had to be aborted thus it waited to clear then the ride could be restarted. 💁

It's likely that the intense heat caused the tracks to expand, increasing the friction on the car. Couple that with high humidity, making the air denser which leads to more air resistance. The heat may have also affected the ability of the launcher to propel the car as much as it needed. All these combined and you end at that rare moment where the three combined provide just enough friction to prevent the car from going over the top hat.

​@4KUniversalTV no the issue with veloci is that when it gets too hot the friction the wheels make ends up making them super soft and they don't roll as well

The intense heat, intense UV rays, the metals expanding and contracting due to temperature changes and stress from the constant operation of the cars and it's honestly surprising that more paint hasn't peeled off.
