Full disclosure: I’m prone to giving them slack because I had some good luck (no great ships, but a TON of ‘so so’ ships) this update. Honestly, I think the lack of enthusiasm or interest in this ships comes from it being another Fletcher. We have so many Fletchers in this game: The OG Tier VII Fletcher, the Black, the Kidd, the Chung Mu, and the Velos doesn’t seem to add much to the table. Also I don’t really like Tier VIII, so why would I play THIS over a Kidd or Black? It really is, as you said, perfectly mediocre.

Velos, I think, is better than the credit it gets. I think the four guns instead of five isn't that big of a deal. The problem is that the Velos is a recycled Fletcher, so if one has the Fletcher then what is the logical motivation for getting the Velos? exactly... There doesn't appear to be much logical motivation unless one either has few Tier 8 destroyers like I do or none at all. and we've been here before with recycled campaign ships with the Brisbane, and that didn't wow (pun intended) a lot of the customers out there either, so methinks the recycle idea is likely at 0 for 2 for Wargaming. That's a trend... What the customers, I think, either wanted or preferred, would have been the Borodino as the campaign ship. It appeared most who rented it like myself, really liked it. It's been 22 consecutive months since we've last seen a Soviet campaign ship (Kronshtadt) so it's beyond past due. Instead the enthusiasm for Borodino was kinda used against the customers by putting the likely preferred ship behind a wee-bit of a paywall....which is not an enthusiasm-maker for most. My hopes for the remainder of the '24 campaigns is low....I've not seen such a stretch of unremarkable campaign ships with the exception of the Lushun . It's time to give the Pan-ish ships a rest and also destroyers a rest. We need some exciting cruisers and maybe a battleship or two for a nation that does not have a Premium Tier 8 battleship (USA & Soviet Union) As far as cruisers go...if we are talking Tier 8...again the Soviets would be a great choice along with Japan, Italy, France, and the U.K. I kinda like the Velos for some reason, but I'm not logically motivated enough to pursue another recycled ship. Been there and did that once before so I'll pass. Though I must say I disagree with Derka regarding the Pommern...I got it in a Xmas crate and love it, but what is good for one is not a promise to be good for another and therein lies the infinite beauty of variety.

Can confirm Hayate will tear a Velos to shreds. I’m pretty sure Hayate has the hardest hitting HE shells out of any DD, but I could be wrong. Hayate also has one of the highest DPM’s. Not the highest but it’s still really good.

I'm on board with campaign ships being balanced. Lushun needs multiple nerfs otherwise there's no point in playing any other T8 DD right now. Hayate, Chung Mu and Elbing are all strong, but a full tier below Lushun.

I don’t understand WG’s thought process with this ship. -They take away a gun but give it a better fire rate, basically a wash. -They make it a Pan-Euro ship which generally has good AA but the AA is basically the same as the t7 Fletchers, plus they give it the consumable. -They take away a rack of torps but make them slightly better, I look at this as a loss So, at best this ship is equal to the t7 Fletchers and this would be fine there. I’d play it often because of how great it would be as a credit earner. I’m not understanding how this ship is a t8. Now, instead of the AA mod, if it had the option for both of the reload mods that would be cool and unique and it would have given it something to make it a t8. All that said, I’m rounding out my Fletcher collection. I’d probably call it my favorite ship so, of course I need 5 variants of it.

While I did not do direct comparisons to Fletcher I think the big thing Velos brings to the table is speed. She’s very fast. 38 knots smokes a Fletcher, not to mention the speed boost. She’s fast enough to be a great scout, and to run away from any fight she cannot handle. Is speed the most amazing attribute in a gun boat? Maybe not. Most players just want pure firepower, cause that makes it easy. You don’t think you just shoot. But speed is a powerful attribute if used properly.

@@DerkaGames I didn’t mention speed but now that I look, the OG Fletcher has 37.6 knot top speed and a better turning circle. Not sure about rudder shift because my commanders are throwing things off. Black is slightly slower at 36 knots but it’s a t7 and has a freaking radar! I agree with you about speed. It’s a big reason I’ve been having so much fun with the Italian DD’s lately but this isn’t a big enough difference to justify the jump in tier.

1:10 Copy this for your commander. In your module section, instead of adding the torpedo module in the 4th slot, add Main Battery Mod 3. It will make the gun reload faster.

Maybe this is just me but Kronstadt imo is one of the worst ones they’ve had besides Carnot; terrible Russian concealment, basically zero rudder and the guns mediocre at best…fully built for guns same as my Riga and Petro and it’s consistent shotguns. Im surprised to hear that! Accuracy is wonky at times no doubt, but its massively tanky, and has that large soviet radar. The guys use it in comp for a reason. I will say if you have a 16/4 Lightful, it can be a game changer for accuracy
