Ven. Bodhicitta: Giving up a career to be a Bhikkhuni

This is a talk given by Ven. Bhikkhuni Bodhicitta at the opening of the Gotami Vihara in Kuala Lumpur recently. In the talk which she explains about her upbringing and why she gave up a successful career (in this case in bio-medicine) in order to become a bhikkhuni. The talk is followed by questions and answers from the audience about the choices she made in her life.

Im so proud to hear this talk that given by venerable bhikkuni about her ordination and life story. Happy to hear also that she came from SRI LANKA too as it is my country as well. May she able to attain nobel truth to great nirvana. Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu! :)

40.40 onwards - very insightful, full of wisdom on the issue of the Bhikkuni order and opposition from the Bhikkus. 46.30 particularly wise and gives a perfect indication why and how the Bhikkuni will glow again as it once did.

I don't know but for whatever the reason this just brings me so much of peacefulness and happiness within myself that it reminds me why and how I should actually live life. Ven. Bodhicitta herself is such a huge inspiration that I can relate to her life in so many ways. This was honestly just so amazing! Thank you, Ven. Bhodicitta! May the Noble Triple Gem bless you!

Julio, that fact does not mean disrespect. People in occident, like me, in México, are used to say "thank you" in every moment, but in other countries are not the same. When I was in Malaysia, in a retreat, I observed the same thing, and a person near to the Bhante, told me that is normall. Even the Buddha used to say nothing, neither with acknowledge by a look, when he was invited to eat by someone, he accepted the invitations in silence. Bikkus and bikkunis have many strict rules about how to behave with other people. Please don't get a wrong idea about the ordained Sangha, they are very kind people. With metta.
