Greeting from Northern Thailand. I really love to listen to Ven.Bhikkhu Bodhi's talks. He's really one of the preacious jems and one of the most prominent among the living fountains of Buddhism.

I had several occasions in retreats being overcome by sleepiness during walking meditation. I could hardly stumble on and had the strong urge to just lie down and sleep. A very unpleasant experience! On one occasion I gave in to the urge and lay down, but at another time I pondered the hindrance of tinhamidha, trying to overcome it by just bearing up, and surprisingly it passed away. Great experience!

Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu, Thank you, Bhante. I appreciated the additional depth you revealed in the hindrances usually called Sloth and Torpor. Drowsiness and Dullness sound more like something we can recognize, understand, and remedy without necessarily being self-aversive or judgemental. One can hardly tackle the hindrance of Ill Will when one is elsewhere cultivating ill will toward oneself.
