@@19NAT43 Allende committed suicide, or so are the rumors, there have been investigations into that as was his death, but before the bombardment, there was an armed combat between the armed forces against what would be the President's Guard, where they maintained their position for hours against the Chilean Army, located at different points of la Moneda and near buildings around, to give them combat. For that reason, the army asked the air force to send a bomber, as the battle had gone on much longer of what was expected for the high command.
