Thanks much for wonderful coverage, both joy and sadness. Powerful to hear sailors empathize their teams and the importance of all the support they receive. Keep up the amazing work.

I wonder if you and Gladwell have done a retrospective review of actual course sailed vs. predict winds prediction. As the sailors have choices and actual 'polars' performance do impact the performance, this comparison would be fascinating to see. Just a thought. I am still gutted about the event experienced by Pip Hare, can you mention next time her plan and progress?
@Sail-World4 сағат бұрын
@@thorntontarr2894 it's been pretty close, but yes, the actual polars make a real difference. Even the two leaders sail very different downwind VMG angles at times.
@ottobihrer7322 сағат бұрын
I thought the same, it would be interesting to overlay predictions to actual outcome, I don't think, the predictions for the wind match reality past 6 hours.

Good report as usual...but though you did notice instant speed of Dalin being 2 knots faster than Richomme, you overlooked the incredible speed of Seb Simon, actually faster than the first two...with a "single" foil boat !! There could be more changes at top of the race soon...😃

@@Tendance-Inox Richomme is very quick downwind in breeze, but I believe Dalin has a more all round boat, so I think we'll see the lead switch back and forth over the coming days (and probably weeks). It's exciting!

Could you explain a bit more what a jury rig is and how Pip Hare can travel 700M without a mast to those of us not from the sailing world?
@sailawayteam9 сағат бұрын
Basically take any spar (like spinnaker boom, main boom, piece of mast) and hoist it, use lines/ropes as shrouds. Then a small sail, typically storm jib is set in front of the new "mast", hanked on the shroud.
@Sail-World9 сағат бұрын
@@ImpossibleSolution-k6w I'm hoping to see more of the jury rig in Pip's next update, where I'll be able to talk what she's done. It will be using a spar, maybe a outrigger, as a mast, then hoisting a sail ahead of that. As @sailawayteam says, usually a storm jib.
