Glad, you are well. Heartbreaking non the less 😢😢😢. I German we say "Hinfallen, aufstehen, Krone richten, weitergehen." The English equivalent would probably be "Fall down, get up, straighten your crown, move on." It's about resilience. And as far fetched any such thought may seem to you right now, I know you will make it. You are stronger than anybody I know. Get up, and go on, Queen Pip! 👑

I hear that the one design masts are being updated and strengthened next year, its tough, i cant imagine what it must be like out there now. get some rest point the boat in the right direction and concentrate on getting her home safe, it could have been so much worse!

So sorry for you and your team that Medallia's mast came down. It has been a real pleasure to have your personal comments on the sailing experience, the rough seas, the high winds, the beautiful views and have an opportunity to share in your genuine joy in participating in the Vendee Globe. I hope you can come back and finish it next year. In the meantime, perhaps you and your team could put together a few hours of footage looking out over the transom at the wake to catch its sense of awesome power with the sound of the wind in the rigging mixing with the water splashing over the deck and the occasional thump as Medallia falls down a wave. I could watch it for hours. For some reason it is calming - probably because I am not there myself - and would have it run on our 48" TV for hours, just sit and watch the waves and wake listening to all the different sounds of your journey. Please make sure to get to land safely.

Obviously very disappointing, but don't feel that you have let people down. Everyone who contributes knows that the race takes place in epic conditions and success is not guaranteed. Nobody could have asked for more from you, your team and your supporters. It was and is a campaign to be proud of. The routing through the north Atlantic was masterful and the longer the race went on, the more you were able to learn how to best exploit the boat's potential, staying not far behind more modern and better resourced rivals. Please keep the updates coming. There is a new adventure now, "Medallia - the Voyage Home". This will be an interesting story too: sailing to port under jury rig, planning and carrying out repairs and sailing back half-way round the world. Nobody will tell this story better than you, and editing the footage at the end would make a fine mini-documentary that will delight your fans and sponsors. We are behind you!
