Tensions between Latin America's Venezuela and Guyana are mounting. The two neighbours continue to be at loggerheads over the oil-rich region of Essequibo. In the latest, Venezuela's lawmakers have approved the creation of a new state in the disputed territory. The Nicolas Maduro government claims it has the right to govern Essequibo. The issue has been to court several times already, but Venezuela refuses to acknowledge the jurisdiction of any international court, and does not intend to abide by any judgement. Guyana is entitled to invite any firm to do what it needs to improve its economy. Venezuela is NOT entitled to do a land grab, a la Russia.

Guyana is seeking to buy 2:Dolphin class subs from Germany - not sure if they ( Guyana ) have the depth of resources to help them operate these sophisticated submarines. ​@@atmaj4907I believe based on history tigri area/ new river triangle belong to guyana. the british always controlled the area dispite it being disputed. The dutch and British in 1936 agreed that the land would go to the british tigri/New river triangle that is, and the entire width of the corentyne to suriname. However, this was not ratified because world war 2 broke out, but the dutch and British signed a tri point agreement with brazil placing it at the Kutari river and that was binding, so based on that it's guyanese land. The dutch and British then went back to the table in the 1960s and the dutch went back on the agreement, even after signing the tri point agreement with brazil. So, guyana gained independence with that area being their's but not fully because there wasn't an agreement between the two countries except for fhe tri point agreement of 1936. I find it really funny that suriname does not recognize the 1936 agreements because one isn't binding but wants the tigri area and the entire width of the corentyne to themselves. The latter is what they actually control btw. That person had every right to tell you go to the ICJ. But surname won't do it, they want to sit around and cry all day it's their land and there's an important reason why they won't go. the 1936 agreement will most likely be used by the court to give a ruling so they lose either way. In the 2000s guyana and suriname was on the International stage when it came to border issues specifically with maritime border and the 1936 agreement was involved in a final ruling so suriname knows very well they don't have any historical legal documents on their side and based on the 2000s situation they won't go to the court.

Suriname was a bully, just because the Dutch was in Guyana, they think the New River Triangle is there. They were claiming the Corentine river as theirs and don't want Guyanese to used the river. I can remember Suriname gun boats were chasing Guyanese fishermen by the shores of Guyana saying the waters belongs to Suriname. That problem was solved by UN so why talking about it.
