Veni, Sancte Spiritus (Gregorian Chant)

Veni, Sancte Spiritus is the sequence at Holy Mass for the Feast of Pentecost. Known as the Golden Sequence, is commonly regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of sacred Latin poetry ever written.
1. Come, O Holy Spirit!
and send from Heaven
a ray of Thy light.
2. Come, Father of the poor!
Come, giver of gifts!
Come, Thou light of our hearts!
3. Thou best of Comforters!
The soul’s sweet guest
and refreshment!
4. Her rest in toil;
her shelter in heat;
her solace in woe!
5. O most blesséd Light!
fill the inmost soul
of Thy faithful.
6. Without your assistance,
there is nought in man,
there is nought but evil.
7. Cleanse our defilements;
water our dryness;
heal our wounds.
8. Bend our stubborn will;
warm up our cold hearts;
guide our straying steps.
9. Give to Thy faithful,
who hope in Thee,
Thy holy seven gifts.
10. Give them the merit of virtue;
give them the happy issue of salvation;
give them endless joy.
