Thank you for this. Venice is truly an interesting place and an American gem. It's my favorite place in LA by far. It was so interesting to hear the story of old Venice and Abbot Kinney. I recently learned a lot about the racist real estate practices that blocked African Americans and other minorities from owning homes across America(and still informally and sometimes formally does). It was nice to hear that tidbit about Abbott Kinney. I've lived near Venice Beach most of my life and am a regular visitor. I've always felt home there and loved the beautiful diversity and free spirit you see there. It's a dream of mine to one day own a home near the beach there.

Nice Video! We have LOVED VB since my wife grew up sk8ing with Tony & Jay in the 70's and I learned to rollerblade there in the 80's & we enJOYed AK in the 90's with the eclectic surf/book stores, and good but not too pricey dining options. Long LIVE Surfing Cowboys!! Yet over the past decade or so, the homeless issue has gotten totally out of hand...Sadly the boardwalk is mostly tent encampments now... Although to be fair, in years past they have congregated mostly north past the Breakwater!

Those tents on the Boardwalk are gone. Massive cleanup. Police dismantle any tent built overnight.

how do you think about venice for raising a family? or more for younger people

Ummm, it depends on how you want to raise your kids :) But I wouldn't call Venice a family neighborhood in the traditional sense. The more family pockets of Venice I would say are the Silver Triangle and the Millwood area, or east of Lincoln. For a more family neighborhood, that's also nearby, I would suggest Mar Vista. @@theartistofrealestate Facts. Although I have a home and a family with children in the Oakwood area of Venice, there are not a lot of kids to play with in Venice collectively. Most of my kids friend are in Culver City and Mar Vista

this was a no go area when i was a kid, even locals had a hard fight for place here. i skated Santa Monica, Westwood, Beverly hills, century city, the 20th century back lot, basically everywhere else but here. times change, maybe?

Nice, thanks for sharing, Kasper! Yeah, crazy, the turn Venice has taken over the years! It still has its issues, but seems far from what it used to be. It's just hard for the gangsters of the past to afford to live in the area. Thanks for sharing!

The only thing worse than living in the Valley is living in Venice Beach. Yeah, property values will be stable even in bad times and skyrocket in good times, but it's not a pleasant place to live.
