Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage has been a huge hit for Sony this year and is a great and energetic sequel to the 2018 original. And what’s more, they brought motion capture super star Andy Serkis on as the director for this bigger than life monster mayhem motion picture. Now, with that kind of pedigree, you may be expecting to see a lot of footage of star Tom Hardy in a green suit with a lot of little dots painted on his face, but you might be surprised! Like the original film, they chose to make the monsters and the action larger than life by cleverly creating Venom and Carnage using just CGI and layering them in on top of the actors as they interacted with the space. It’s the kind of work that makes stunt guys salivate, as the production attached tethers and harnesses to everyone and everything so that it could all be pulled or thrown around by the symbiote action. Of course, there were also some concessions that had to be made, such as the suspended car sequence (shades of Spider-Man anyone?) that they lost out on their location for, which landed Woody Harrelson hanging out on a hanging car in front of a huge green screen, and pandemic delays. We’ve also got details on just how they did those crazy motorcycle stunts and how the production was able to use their shooting neighbor, The Matrix: Resurrections, to wrangle some free helicopters into their scenes. But what are you still reading this for? Hit that play button!
