Very much passed their prime here, this was just before "Calm Before the Storm" came out which would be the end of Venom until 1989 when Mantas brought it back to it's roots with a new line up.

They were, and the start of metal turning into an extreme direction. Metallica, Slayer and the thrash bands would carry the torch until Possessed and Chuck took things in a more morbid direction. But it all stems from venom
