Though you talk of power points and slides that work in conjunction with your video, I was not privy to these resources prior to watching your footage. I have been in a suburban fire dept in the east coast for about 6 years. Thanks for creating this content. As it may be a little flawed in transitions and flow, it had a lot of great information and demonstrations look sharp and clear. Thank you for sharing your west coast knowledge.

I’m a twenty year veteran volunteer firefighter/emt. If given a choice I use a k12 aka rotary saw. I’ve served my entire time in the midwest. If I have to ventilate I like to ventilate from ladder truck. However ive ventilate “old school” method. Walking across the roof

Absolutely NOTHING about How or WHY it works and how it compares to Horizontal Ventilation which DOES WORK! A house is Not a chimney and can't function like one. When you cut holes in the roof, all you are doing is making the gasses flow and mix them with fresh air which causes ignition and changes the Smoldering attic fire into an inferno. No heat or gasses are released from the lower levels because of the pressure the attic fire is creating. Horizontal Ventilation at the fire room is Faster, Safer and Easier to execute and gives the heat and smoke a Direct route out of the building. It also draws the heat away from the interior and unburned materials rather than draw the heat Through the building like Vertical Ventilation. Stop Following and start Thinking America! TRY TELLING ME WHERE AND HOW I AM WRONG, NOT THAT I AM WRONG!

Ryan They wouldn't Want to listen anymore than You want to listen! You All need your Heroes and Want to FOLLOW what people in "Authority" tell you, so You will Blindly FOLLOW what they tell you like it was the Best and Only way. Common Sense and Logic Alone dictate that you can't turn a house into a chimney Just because you cut a hole in the roof and Heat Rises! That's just plain old Ignorant! The ONLY Reason they do VVing besides Heat Rising is, It creates a great adrenaline rush and makes them look like Heroes because, VVing does NOT make the interior any safer and only does Nothing or Hurts the structure and endangers the victims and fire fighters. ASK, your instructors how VVing works and Why it works and then THINK for yourself to see the BS!

JB91710 slow your role internet warrior. They both have their specific purposes and your claims against vertical ventilation are pretty ignorant. Vv will greatly improve lower interior visibility and more importantly not cause horizontal fire spread all while cooling lower AND upper atmospheres for interior operations , while horizontal ventilation will only cause lateral overhead fire spread and needs to be done very precisely to be effective. Dont confine yourself in this profession, there are plenty of techniques and ways of doing things why not utilize them?

I'm gonna have to agree with Ryan Banman and cj on this one. I have not been in the fire service long, and am finishing up FF1 at the end of July, but I've been to my fair share of calls. What you are saying about fresh air mixing and fueling ignition first of all, also happens with horizontal ventilation, and can also be minimized with PROPER ventilation techniques. The goal of firefighters is to, big surprise, put out fires. This is done by removing one of the sides of the fire triangle. Ventilation does this by removing the heat side. I'd argue in some cases, VV is more effective than HV as heat rises, and a vertical vent allows heat to escape, sometimes better than HVing would. I'd love to discuss this further with you, if you have any counter points, I welcome them.

How many working fires do you catch in a tour? Better yet, have you been in a fire? Anybody who says what you just posted doesn't know what they're talking about.
