Ventnor's clifftop meadow. La Falaise, Ventnor, Isle of Wight

Here's a video I made in summer 2023 of the La Failaise Meadow, and area of close-mown grassland turned into a wildflower meadow by Ventnor Town Council. No seeds sown - the wildflowers were already in the sward. They're now being allowed to flower and the bees and butterflies are delighted...

In April 2023 I encountered one lovely and lonely Northern Wheatear several days running on the sea defenses between Steephill Cove and Castle Cove. Tired from crossing the channel?

In August 2022 a European woodpecker enjoyed pecking in the Flowers' Brook grass at dusk. Quite different from the great spotted woodpecker around Ventnor Botanic Garden (where I've also spotted pheasants).

My favourites are probably the kestrels in the park area, and the dunnocks around La Falaise. Mind you, I hear much exciting song in all seasons that I'm not able to identify. Yet :)

That’s a favourite spot for Wheatears in early spring (well, any time from mid Feb) and again in the autumn. One or two pairs still nest in rabbit burrows on West High Down but no longer on Ventnor Downs sadly.
