I think people who complain are mostly from the West lmao. Im in Asia and people are willing to throw money at Netease, seriously nobody really care. It will make a profit in their first year for sure. You can look at diablo immortal etc. The strategy is to sell Free to play games like a non-live service game and hope it profits in the first year. You can expect the same monetication as Marvel superwar. - Lock character - Skin tier -Progression skip etc.

Difference is though, Marvel Rivals isn't replacing a prior product which had a form of monetization some people preferred. You can't play OW1 anymore, the game I paid an upfront price for and now doesn't exist, replaced by a f2p version which I'm less enthused by. Not saying Rivals is gonna be good, but atleast people will know what they're getting into if they go for it. Also not defending NetEase (because they are bad), but I think Activision can take the blame for some of their more egregious p2w microtransaction shenanigans.

@@Raelyn here’s the funny thing. The thing you paid for is still here. OW2 isn’t a sequel anymore it’s an update. A balance patch that you don’t like. You basically paid for the skins and things you have now. And those were basically free after the initial $40 purchase of the game itself. Ow was failing as a boxed product because no one bought loot boxes anymore (and you saying a monetization model people preferred. I think you just mean free cosmetics)

I do like a progression system for hero games like Moba and Paladins/Overwatch. Heroes of the Storm had a 3-5 weekly hero rotation that let's people try the hero they haven't bought. The 5+ beginner heroes let you learn the ropes and you can progress fairly quickly to unlock new heroes. Good system with the option to pay real dollars or save up your progression coins. I have almost the whole roster unlocked F2P, don't care to buy the others. It's a nice "on rails" way for new players to learn and feel the gratification of progress.

That's not necessarily a bad thing though. Overwatch absolutely takes the prize when it comes to overall polish, but I've always thought Paladins just has a better sense of identity, it knows what kind of game it wants to be better than Overwatch. Much less balancing issues overall, it promotes a more casual environment over competitive (which I think suits that game better and also should've been the route OW should've gone down). I dunno if it will necessarily compete with Overwatch, but I think it's a great Paladins/Smite sort of analogue.

I never said it was a bad thing, I love Paladins, and I think its actually better for the game to feel different in a way. Just that people are doing a wrong comparison that is all. Should be comparing to Paladins not OW

​@@crispynx40its 3rd person so I dont get the comparison at all, like this games gonna have as much in common with ow as league had with battleborn, same gamemode exactly but 2 almost entirely different playerbases because one attracted fps enjoyers and the other attracted moba enjoyers, ofc there will be overlap but no more overlap than minecraft has with fortnite if it even has that much, like it's cool in concept and maybe will get it's own playerbase but if they were going for overwatch like, the main reason overwatch was such a hit is the fact you have fixed hero kits allowing for crazy playstyles inna fps, unlike apex we can have a cyber ninja because we gave the ninja a projectile not a choosable wep amd than they put it inna fps which had never been done, we had seen millions of games make genji in 3rd person, just never first person.

People shit on Blizzard all the time but I have always thought they are absolutely nuts and have obviously never touched a game with legitimately predatory monetization.

I have a feeling you're right. It will give people the gameplay that Overwatch does well, But a lot of people are sick of the Marvel characters being in so many things. It's not to say you can't do great characterization of the Marvel characters and make an interesting game. I just don't think that's what's going to happen here. I think we'll get a game that might be fun and a cool alternative when you're sick of certain Overwatch stuff, But when it comes to Lore and interesting characters, I don't think anything licensed could really come close to the community of characters OverWatch has built over the years.

Loki doesnt have build up ult when he duplicates he instantly has it. Its does look like the animations and framerate need more polish but its still in beta so thats good. Third person is cool but they will be milking fans for skins but at least we will be able to see them. Lol looks good so far.

The intro music sounds like Apex, the map looks like it’s straight from Overwatch. It does look neat but it’s only 3rd person and from Netease. The ability combos with an ally is something Ive been dreaming about in overwatch since launch.

Blizzard has only monetized cosmetics - which is great. Ability and power monetization is significantly worse. I’m glad they are walking back some of the choices they made in battle pass. Imagine you bought a car and the A/C wouldn’t turn on without you paying a useage fee. 🎉 Rivals needs to be an FPS though.

I didn't even notice all of these features in my first 2 watches of the trailer. The ability comboing system will be really interesting, so long as you're not limited in your choice of partners. If the effect changes depending on who you give it to, it would unlock a lot of depth and theory-crafting. IMO this is better than counter-picking. Although the pacing, hitboxes, and melee/ability-centric nature of this preview implies it will be a lot easier to get into and digest than Overwatch. I could easily see this being bad if it's too brawly/ melee-favored [like their other game Naraka].
