I’ve only played Magic a couple times in the past, but the Doctor Who set got me so I’m in the same boat as you (but I bought all four 😂). I found it a bit helpful to watch some videos by more experienced magic players looking at the Doctor Who cards and reviewing/explaining what they do. The Timey-Wimey deck actually looks the most complicated to play. Hope you have fun!

I just started playing MTG last month and in my experience so far the community has been welcoming to new players. Do know however, that these Doctor Who MTG products are commander decks. Commander is usually played with 4 players and in my experience feels more like a board game than a traditional 1v1 card game. The cards in this set are only legal in a commander format except for a few other more niche MTG game formats. The game store that sold you the deck likely has its commander night on Wednesday which is why he told you to come in that day. Just make sure that when you show up to tell people that you are there to play commander and that you are new to the game and have not played before so they can match your level of skill by playing decks that wont beat you in only a few turns so that you can get the best experience playing the deck. Wouldn't hurt to look into purchasing sleeves for your deck as well so that there is less risk that they will get damaged. Also if you don't know how cards work or what certain words or effects on cards mean do not hesitate to ask anyone you are playing with. They will always explain what certain cards do and when you can/cant use them. Lastly, the best channel I know of for covering MTG info, tutorials, and products for both new and veterans players is the channel: Tolarian Community College. He like you is also a big Doctor Who fan and was even given the opportunity to preview one of the decks before they came out and also a few days ago posted a video on his personal opinion of how the Doctor Who commander decks are as both a product for MTG fans and for Doctor Who fans like yourself. I hope you enjoy playing! :)

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I did buy sleeves and I got my deck protected. I’ll post a video talking about my experience.
