Good job Ev and Em Carnivorum. Great short and informative video. Even cooler that the kids are involved. Personally we've never found the high limit, but 1/2 tsp per pint is our current running mix. So we do ~4 tsp per gal. Tried half as much before and was too weak. More often use maxsea only for vft seedlings and babies via dropper. Or spray some in New sarracenia pitchers etc

Great to know. We will be pushing the limits on the next experiment. Good to know 4 is reasonable.

Love the video guys! Great dad U guys have here&such smarts it’s definitely appreciated!! I have some questions about my carnivorous I have some pitcher plants as well as the Venus fly trap, and I also have been trying to get some honeysuckle to germinate and start and I can’t you guys seem really smart. If you have any advice, please let me know.

Evan, you did amazing. This is exactly what I was looking for. I love the scientific approach as you never really see anyone publishing results like this. I appreciate the time you took, it's extremely helpful! I'm about to start growing from seeds and this was the exact info I needed. Also, Em, great outro! I smashed the like and definitely subbed. Hope you guys keep putting out great work like this. Keep it up!!

Great video and very informative! Thanks for doing this test and sharing your results! I have wondered about this very thing and might do a bit of an experiment myself and see what happens if I push the limits even further (more MaxSea and differences in frequency of fertilization for example). Thanks for the information and inspiration!! ☺

Another well done video Ev & Em (dad too)! Very thorough with lots of good information. Looks like a turn-key school science project ready to go too! As a dad who helped with a few of them I recognized that right away, ha ha! I have one suggestion and one question. My suggestion would be to measure and record the TDS concentration of the Maxsea mixtures in PPM. Including this information would remove the human error of measuring variation between individuals. Certainly not necessary, but graphing the Maxsea concentration against growth would be more accurate and uniform. My question is; did you ever flush the pots with straight water between Maxsea applications? I ask because it would be useful to know if the Maxsea was accumulating in the soil and to what levels it was safe for the seedling’s roots. This is the root of the myth (pun warning). Great video, thoroughly enjoyed it, learned a lot, hope you keep them coming. Thanks for posting it up. 🙏

Excellent suggestions, Eric! Agree that concentrations of Maxsea may be problematic as the fertilizer itself isn’t uniform. As for washing the trays, we did not for the 14 weeks. That said, once they went outside they did get a wash.

Im getting ready to start hydro growing Venus flytraps i came here to see if anyone experimented on ppm and how hard you can push them using 16-16-16 is already stronger than what i thought they could handle

Great video. People are terrified to use more than like a 1/4 tsp per gal. I bet you can use 6 tsp per gal and have even better results.

Great video! Can’t wait to see more tests you all do! Did you do any flushing of the maxsea? I wonder if there is any negative effect from feet buildup in the soil.
@evandemcarnivorium Жыл бұрын
Great point. We moved the plants outside after 4 months. And probably got some natural flush.

Could I also ask why Maxsea seems to be the choice for everyone when looking for carnivorous plants fertilizers? Can't I use a different brand with similar composition? Thank you!
@evandemcarnivorium Жыл бұрын
Giacomo- this was described in a book widely regarded in the US as the major reference for carnivorous plant care. Would be good to see if different fertilizers with similar NPK (16-16-16) ratios work as well. Perhaps in our next round of experiments.
