As a longtime Venus fan, I have just been hoping and praying that somehow she gets close to this form of hers. I know it seems impossible. But I really hope to see her play the way she played in Wimbledon 2008. She was invincible. It hurts me so much that I couldn't watch Venus win one more Rosewater dish after all these years. Even though it looks like she never will one more slam but I still have this tiny hope otherwise I would have stopped watching tennis. It is Venus who made me love tennis. I will never watch tennis after Venus retires because I never found someone as gracious and powerful as her.

that 2008 level is still there she just need to stay healthy and injury free and play well she really should have won the 2017 Wimbledon title.

I have been following Venus since 1994, I have been one of her biggest fan. We have to be proud of what she achieved in 2017, she came so close to #8 not once, but twice and to do it at age 37 just shows what a champion and talent she truly is....I think we just need to believe it can happen and no matter what she will inspire millions as she continues to do. Despite current form I see some improvements in her game and I think dropping David Witt is an adjustment, but her new coach Eric Hechtman is changing some things to resemble Venus of old, but with more spin, more height on her snots, and different service motion. She changed up her gear and strings in the off season and she seems to be pretty fit again! I hope we get to see tennis again in 2020.🎾

It's not easy or impossible to reach this level this was before her sickness, after her sickness she continued to play but was never that top level, venus makes history already and she will continue to make, may God be with her always

Shelly Thomas yes depending on this us open draw, I believe she has what it takes. Hopefully she gets into a draw with very little competition until the quarters or semis. I hate when they put her in draws with her sister early.

I love Venus movement back then. She's like a panther man. She can clear the entire court in 3 strides and be in an open stance. LOVE THIS WOMAN.

yep i think when she was in this form 2008-9 (except for that 09 final) she was moving better than anyone ever has done on grass

@@aaronwilkins1843 Dude she had an injury in 2009. Even though she won very comfortably against other players but there was something wrong with her legs. She wasn't able to move properly like she did the previous two years. Serena wouldn't have been able to defeat her at that point if Venus was fully fit. Venus was playing amazing even with that injury. The only commendable victory against Venus was 2002 final for Serena. She was the better player. In 22003, Venus shouldn't have played the final and still the match was super tight, 3 amazing sets.

Dutchmusicfan1992 To be fair, no matter how good Venus is right now, 38 is much different than 28, as she was here. It would take more than big hitting these days. Although, she certainly taught Giorgi a lesson or two.

Venus does a lot more than big hitting but it certainly helps if her groundstrokes are at full flight. And you're right of course, she's 38 now. But her problem now is not the hitting or even the moving. Her unforced errors are way to high and her serve is not what it's been, while she is still able to hit huge shots and she's a great mover for somebody at 38. Giorgi is a good example, she's only hitting hard. Just like Keys. There's no plan, there's no plan b.. But players these days are nothing like Venus or Dementieva here. Davenport, Mauresmo, Clijsters, Henin, Capriati, Hingis, Seles (still great for her age) and of course Serena..it was quite something.

I really miss Dementieva. It's so sad she didn't get to win a major. She peaked when the Williams and Justine and Kim were at the top of their game, so she unfortunately couldn't. In this current tour, she would have definitely won a major. In my opinion she's even better than sharapova, yet she never got that slam.

In terms of movement, power, and all round athleticism, Venus played the best tennis of any female that has ever won Wimbledon here in 2008, and she did it again a year later but weirdly stopped playing this incredibly in the final.

@@jrdelrey3009 she was electrifying there but I still don't feel her movement was as good (it wasnt tested by other players) as much as Venus' was in 08. Curiously, Azarenka and Sharapova weren't on their game at that tournament. Think Vila was haunted by missed chances at Wimbledon and Sharapova struggled after her FO triumph. In Venus' case I should also add in 09. Up til the final Venus devestated everyone in her path. Her dismantling of an in form Ivanovic and the world no.1 Safina was something else to watch. Truly awe inspiring

I actually think she played even better in the 2009 tournament, but her knee just didn't hold up and she ran out of gas in the final after missing a return set point up in the first.

Phenomenal doesn't even describe it. LOL. She was ruthless in 2008 Wimbledon and her forehand was insane. She also served like a madwoman. Her 1st and 2nd serves were harder on average than Nadal who was the male champ.

I forget how brutal off the ground Venus was and this was when she first starting experiencing fatigue problems with her illness. Today she is much more tactical in her approach, she plays loopers to throw off her opponents. Despite current form, Her strokes have evolved with the times, much cleaner today and more versatile with spin to adjust for today’s game, but she lacks the confidence, movement, but I have a feeling she will turn it around and play some inspired tennis again soon.

Venus was always a better mover and better net player than Serena. They each had such strengths that they honed and used in amazing ways. In the early years, Serena was the only one who could beat Venus consistently.

Serena stopped Venus twice from winning Wimbledon 3 consecutive times.. 2002 Venus was the 2 time defending champ and lost to serena in the finals then again in 2009 Venus was the 2 time defending champion

@@AdamDawson3 Good for you, you are entitled to favour a player and I am glad Serena came good for you and her fans in 2009 (which I am one too) but mostly for herself. But I find it it so distasteful and frankly pathetic when someone says they are/were 'angry' that someone lost a given final. Venus was undeniably the best player at the 2008 Championships (as she was in my opinion up until the 09 final having dismantled everyone in sight, the no.1 Safina, the in form Ivanovic without dropping a set Furthermore, I didn't say anywhere that Serena didn't play incredible tennis in 09 either- but for me Venus was even a cut above). So how can someone be 'angry' that their favourite player lost a high quality match to someone playing such electrifying tennis. Venus moved like she was on a cloud in 2008, hit with such dynamic power, utilised amazing net play and side-side shots. She won the first set against Serena 7-5 despite being 3-0 down and Serena's stats reading 19 winners to 6 unforced errors. But yeah you're 'angry' Serena lost to that kind of performance. *eye rolls*

Venus is a better player than Serena...however, Serena is the strongest competitor and champion. Serena had that belief, even when she was playing horribly, and she never gave matches away inexplicably. Obviously, once the fitness issues for Venus came in, it was even harder for her.
