What a fun, unusual, and exciting game. How delightful to get full matches of Venus Williams facing a variety of players, especially those worthy of the CLASSIC MATCH distinction. No doubt there must be quite a few more in the archives not yet publicized that will prove of equal interest to all of us who especially enjoy those superb Wimbledon videos. Venus Williams, with her beauty, spectacular legs, impeccable shot-making motions, smooth panther-like athleticism and fluid dancing is a true ballerina of the court. She can produce incredible shots with dazzling flashes of true visual art. It is in fact on this meticulously maintained grass that Venus found her greatest successes, and where, against that impressive rich green background, she always looks at her very best. Her occasionally unpredictable great shots, as well as her disconcerting errors - when she becomes betrayed by her exuberance and defeated by her excess of power - sustain the excitement of her performances, and unfailingly keep the crowd in suspense to the final shot.

Kimiko played a terrific match here. She really shouldn't have retired after 1996. If she had played anything like this a decade earlier she would have been a grand slam winner
@peterzhou92674 жыл бұрын
No chance. Kimiko's style was very dependent on the opponents to be at a certain pace and power. When all-court players took off pace on purpose, even when they were off, Kimiko's game could be very helpless to watch. One would even argue that in the 1990s Kimiko overachieved by playing more because her records against the top were really unimpressive. If she had not retired the only weaker years after would be 1997 and 2004 - but Hingis totally owned her. Her 1995 Tokyo title probably was the most she could make, which was a good run.
@Tjordful4 жыл бұрын
Qiu ZH she beat Graf in Fed cup and I’m sure would have beat Graf in the 96 Wimbledon sf if the match hadn’t been called for darkness in the third set. Steffi was clearly frazzled. Then she would have met Aranxta on grass who she beat several months later in a hard court final. So ya she definetly could have won Wimbledon in 96 there was something in the air about her game. The calling of the third set really screwed her. She was coming from a set down a lot of her matches at Wimbledon that year.
@peterzhou92674 жыл бұрын
@@Tjordful well Arantxa was her biggest nemisis who beat her after in Olympics too - it was an ugly match which showed that Date needed ASV to be really off to even snatch a set. Never watched the San Diego final so couldn't comment on that, but ASV was pretty much spent on the hard court after so many runner ups. Provided that Graf had lost in Wimbledon (she was not playing well in that match) though, ASV would definitely have seized the big chance since she was actually playing okay there with an easy draw. (It's like saying Dementieva would've won Wimbledon 09' - no, her nightmare Venus was in the final) Am well aware of the Fed Cup match - it was brilliant, but Date's playing style is highly reliant on others to generate power. Date was a good player but she overall had maximized her talent up to the point as she had some big technical flaws. She probably would have bothered Seles a bit more with this play though. Basically if she couldn't win a slam in 96', when the top players were actually a bit weary, then she wouldn't have had much chance. Hingis would have totally run her over as seen in 96' already.
@sravankumar35024 жыл бұрын
Date played all tought points and won but she couldn't play well in easy points. Some unforced errors. But any how it's a wonder to watch 40 years player after a gap of 12 years. What a comeback. She is someone special.
@corymajor78114 жыл бұрын
@@peterzhou9267 Yeah she lost 6-2, 6-1 in the quarters of the Year End Championships in 96. If she had any doubts about retiring I think that set since even if she was arguably becoming more competitive with Graf, Seles, Sanchez, she not only had to worry about those and Novotna, but up and coming Hingis already had the full measure of her game with ease.

I agree with all except the outfit. The fit, not good at all, I just felt like reaching in there and pulling it up, the zipper didn’t go in properly, too saggy in the front. The visual with the gold shorts, out of white, not good. I like the design, original for tennis, but poorly executed.
A suggestion fr next video plzz..... Juz as v had a video on SAMPRAS ERA narrated by Andy Roddick, cn v plzzz hv a similar video on STEFFI GRAF ERA too narrated by may be Monica Seles or Arantxa Sanchez Vicario or Lindsay Davenport. I guess most of us ll agree tht Steffi Graf being a tennis legend deserves this respect frm Wimbledon as well as her fans globally. Thnk u😊🙏

Kimiko played really well here but keep in mind that Venus was really underperforming with all those error galore. Kimiko was also sharper and fitter - actually she played much fewer years than Venus up to this point as her first career was so short! Kimiko's style wouldn't have won her a slam. She needs to be fed power and pace at the same time to attack. In the 90s Date was actually one of those top 5 that couldn't pose any challenge to the top, similar to the Maleevas. Her top 10 wins were very underwhelming. When the opponents were fit and smart enough, Date would simply turn into a error machine being toyed around. Her biggest nemeses were Sanchez Vicario (8 straight wins) and Graf, who wouldn't give her space to hit out. Still, she had a great record over Martinez.

Myskina won a slam. I think Date was as good as her, if not better mentally.
@peterzhou92674 жыл бұрын
@@brucee6123 Replied in another post above - Date wouldn't have had a chance in those years, up till 2004. 2004 was such a bad year, nothing was right in that year. To their credits though Sharapova and Kuznetsova did improve themselves with better years ahead. But Date would've been too old had she played till that year.
