How absolutely charming. And they make it look so easy, too.

A totally under-rated Astaire film. Filled with many wonderful moments like this, it's always been a favorite.

Anybody who can tap beside Fred is cream of the crop!!! He has to be the toughest most intimidating male tap dancer I would have been too star struck to dance with Fred Astaire..must have been such an honor..Ginger is still my favorite to pair next to him..

Wonderful song and the one song in the movie that Kalmar did not write with Ruby. The composer on this one was another Harry, Harry Puck. What a wonderful film, great post.

Oh, and just by the way, Vera Lynn died just a few weeks ago. Now I'm ready to listen to the ending of Kubrick's Doctor Strangelove, again.

This is dancer Vera-Ellen, not singer Vera Lynn. Two totally different people.

An example of superlative invisible editing. Looks like one unbroken take, but there are cuts at 0:15 and 1:26. The Berry Brothers were supposed to be the past masters of cane work, but this comes close. Vera-Ellen was at her best in demanding and stylised numbers.

But is Vera Ellen really singing?
@chattyroz29347 жыл бұрын
No she's not. I'm not sure who's singing for her here but she never did her own singing. However, few, if any, could match her dancing.

No, the singing was dubbed by Anita Ellis. Really, Vera Ellen had a very nice singing voice (she was occasionally heard on TV in the 50s) but it was not very strong. So, producers and directors always insisted her singing be dubbed in the movies. Here's a quick link to Anita Ellis's biography on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anita_Ellis_(singer)

She was not singing. She sadly did not sing in “White Christmas” either. Rosemary Clooney sang many of the songs for her. In that movie she was very charming. But, Audrey Hepburn did not sing any of the songs in “My Fair Lady.” - Suffer Julie Andrews!

Vera looked better all dressed😁 She was sweet and talented, but her body...well.
