She was difficult to film; they discovered she looked her best full face, head tilted up and drenched in light. She also had the advantage of a beautiful figure and a talent for wearing clothes, including just a robe. She also turned out to be a natural before the camera. The voice and style, of course, are inimitable, full of power and character and yet sentimental and with a touch of a tear. She could sing anything well and did.

Dame Vera was such a smasher. She had no "mid-Atlantic" accent, no false American accent, and no "received pronunciation". She was an ordinary girl loved by millions across the world for her purity, barely adorned beauty, and ability to turn out any song or role laid before her with ease and aplomb. Where are such angels these days?

I like Vera ,but not as actress,and love her voice ,but she i find unlke Formby or Gracie Fields except for White Cliffs Dover and a couple of other tunes the rest were and are bloody depressing.

I sent Dame Vera Lynn a short thank you note for entertaining my relatives in the British Forces during WW2 overseas in the UK. She sent me back a signed photo and personal hand written letter. I was amazed at that.
