Monique Forestier first visited the Verdon Gorge, France, in 2007. Gazing across at the far side of the gorge she became captivated by an extraordinary line which follows a single "tufa" line for most of the 60-metre route. It is called "Tom et je Ris" (8b+). Time and conditions didn't allow her to seriously try it that trip but it gave her plenty to dream about for the next few years. She finally returned in October 2011 and as her daughter would say, "I did it!".

Belle acharnement ! Super vidéo ou on voit bien grimper et où entend pas un gars en doudoune expliquer que c'est la voie de ça vie... :) Good fight ! Great video, it's pleasure to see climbing and not a guy wearing a down jacket who explain this route is the route of his life....:)

how the heck did they film that? I'd like to see the rig they used to get those close up back shots. Obviously they were hanging from above....but incredible climbing too!

@faeganandisaac No special rig for those shots, I just shot it from an abseil rope and since the climb is overhanging I was able to get some nice perspectives, although wasn't ideal for keeping the camera steady. Could work quickly that way though.

You climb 60 meters and there is still a bloody roof on top of it?? Drop of a hat...not many people can understand what's involved to climb a route like this...I know at least 8...
@MattNicassio
@MattNicassio 8 жыл бұрын
+dangerouswater Ropes max out at 80m pretty much... So do you just have to have someone ready with a static at the top just in case? Or is there ANY other way to climb this without being sure that you can make it up? 60m route. Most ropes are 60 but you can for sure get a 70 or 80. But, even then once you're past 40m feet on an 80m you're not getting belayed back down. So, how DOES this work if you can't finish the route?
@dangerouswater
@dangerouswater 8 жыл бұрын
You rappel down till you are out of rope, secure yourself to a bolt/spit, remove the rope from the top anchor, pass it through the bolt you are hooked in (hopefully is big enough to accommodate your carabineer and the rope at the same time) use a rappel device (an "8" for example) to finish your descent...Using an 8 and not your bilayer avoids the friction of the rope on the spit/bolt...I hope my explanation was clear enough...

I see three options: 1 Fixing a fixed rope and jumaring it; 2 Abseilling to the ground (with more than 1 rapel) 3 Climbing using a easier rote From the footage I imagine that Carter (the cameramen) is already in a fixed rope, so, that's probably the right opition.

Wow! Inspirational! Needed something to make me ignore the tiredness and stress of the daily grind (work etc) and get me back to the climbing wall on a regular basis. This should do it . . . I dream of one day climbing in France and the Verdon . . . climbed mostly in Spain, up to now . . . love limestone and climbing on hot rock!

If it's like a lot of the other routes at Verdon, you rap in to get down to the start. Great for that "I'm DONE" feeling at the end, but mentally difficult to start if you're not used to those heights (if you're like me). I definitely felt woozy rapping over the edge there, and prefer easing into the height by starting from the ground...
