Amazed by all the comments saying how "incredibly realistic" and "truthful" this film was. As a veteran, I find this film interesting, but clearly made by no one who's ever served in actual combat... there's just too many glaring mistakes to overlook (guys "on patrol" walking side by side having a conversation, bursts of gunfire that the nearby officer with the enormous, brand new hat somehow doesn't ever hear, etc.). Still, I can appreciate the obvious effort that went into it.

I am a vereran of the South African - Angola war 1980's these short films are really well done I am also of Geman desent I can just say killing a unarmed enemy did not really happen often. Yet sadly it did happen in some cases mostly it was a personal choice and from soldiers that really broken by war. Any war changes you for life its the most sadest emotional thing that can ever happen to you being ptesent where humans are killed and you are part of it in some way. I pray for all wars to end young and old does not have to experiance it. RIP all soldiers of all sides and those whom I was taught was my enemy in Angola as well ... Salute

I accidentally stumbled upon the videos and have been immersed in every one of them for the past day. This is truly outstanding work that humanises soldiers from both sides. Kudos to everyone involved. That said, I'm curious to know where these films were shot and what was the reaction of those who live in or near the location. If filmed in Germany, I wonder how people would react to re-living a terrible time in human history. I can't put myself in the shoes of Germans, but I can imagine recent generations just wanting to put this behind and move forward. I mean, it would be a terrible burden to bear if you had nothing to do with what happened.

It is good for us Americans to hear a foreign actor speaking English so we get a feel for how bad it must sound when American actors try to speak German. I learned German two years in high school, spoke and learned as much as I could during my three years there in the Army. Then took four more semesters in college. I spoke very well and even had dreams in German, but even I didn't sound like a real German.

My father said that German snipers wore camouflage and when they were captured they were easily recognized. Dec 1944 in Fraulatern Germany , two German prisoners were taken from a captured group, they wore camouflage and a Lieutenant marched them behind a building, aTommy gun opened up and the Lt. came back alone . Later my father slipped behind and saw their bodies. He would only say that it wasn't a pretty sight. My father was only a private , but didn't like what happened and confronted the LT. at a convention 30years later but the LT. Denied that it happened. My father shot down 5 German soldiers when they were crossing a fence in that town . He was never proud of that and hoped that others were firing too as house to house war was chaotic. He also captured 5 others earlier and was very proud of that .

My Uncle Christopher fought with the Desert Rats in North Africa in World Two. He told me most of the German troops he encountered were dead from artillery fire. And that's all he ever said to me about his war experience. He joined the British Army as a volunteer in from neutral Republic of Ireland. He returned to Ireland three times after the war. Twice to bury his parents and once to visit my father before he died from prostate cancer. War is hell.

Did they really salute officers in the field as depicted here? Seems like that would surely draw some unwarned attention? The 1911 fired without any hammer movement. The scope on the sniper's 98K was not correct. Why did the German soldiers engage paired side by side and not with some separation? A cross fire would have worked much better. The Americans sure were packed tight in a group of four and walking in line rather than spread out abreast. One American soldier had a 98K and not an M1 or even a 1903 Springfield. No American officer would be on patrol with three enlisted men and armed only with a 1911 pistol. At the least he would have the M1 carbine. Some of these videos are pretty good, but this one was not. The ending was the only good part.
