As others have commented, this is far better than mainstream action sequences. The attention to detail, and not just in the uniforms, is astounding. This from an obsessive Eastern Front history buff who breathes WW2 and is surrounded by over 3,000 military books, and who felt that he was actually on the line with SS Panzer Division Wiking and on the attack.

According to my Grandmother's younger brother who fought on the Russian front in the German Army during WW2. The Red Army did not stop for the wounded. Their political officers wouldn't allow it. Medical people followed up afterwards and picked up any survivors. They would pull dead and wounded tank crew out to put the tank back into action as quickly as possible not because of the crew. Not a rapp on the Red Army, that's just the way it was back then.

Nice to have Germans who are actually native speakers and not some American amateur actors torturing the language. That's one element that made Band of Brothers and Private Ryan so good and so different. And believable. The SS Wiking was the main unit that fought in the Korsun-Jukassy pocket and led the "Breakout through Hell's Gate." They fought a heroic rearguard action, allowing thousands of German Soldiers to escape the encirclement. One notable Soldier, Leon Degrelle served in SS Viking. He was the only politician to become a soldier and go fight on the front lines. As technologically advanced as the Germans were (weapons) it surprises me that the mainline soldier carried a bolt-action rifle, and not a semi-automatic. True, many carried sub-machine guns, but it seems the majority carried bolt-actions. They're slow to chamber a new round and many soldiers, if not most, lowered the rifle to the waistline to re-chamber. I hunt with a bolt-action rifle and practiced operating the bolt while the butt is still on my shoulder and my eye continually looking through the scope. It's easy to do with practice and I don't even think about lowering it to operate the bold. I guess it's muscle memory. Maybe the soldiers WERE trained to keep the rifle aimed and ready to fire and the filmmakers haven't picked up on that. Just a thought that occurred to me while watching all these great short films. This one is really good.
@xhans69522 жыл бұрын
It depends on the circumstances. German soldiers were trained to shoot quickly and re-chamber while moving (so-called Schnellschuss). In cover, it is better to fire again and again bend down and reload calmly. You should keep your had down and peek out only when you will shoot. If the situation requires it, you are right that it is definitely better to re-chamber without taking the rifle off your shoulder. When your unit need some cover or something like that. The rifle in waistline had the advantage of much faster firing during close combat. After all, this is also the method of shooting which was German army using.

Fantastic job. Only complaint is why do all of the shorts that are made about German troops always end in tragedy? I’d like to see a short where the Germans succeed and after the fight celebrate with some captured smokes or rations... like Stalingrad(1993) after they stopped that Soviet tank assault. The Captain passed his list cigar around to reward his men. Not a glorification of war, but men just happy they survived another engagement.

About the only thing I can come up with as a change should be synchronizing the audio levels between each cut. Other than that this short was flawless! Great immersive short
