I would forget where half of that went by the time I took it apart ,. studied in the corn planter yesterday for over an hour....and it was just bolts to put back 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you sir for bringing us along!! Look fwd to seeing some hay go through it!! 😁😁😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍

Great video sire, thanks for posting. The old baler will last you many more years by you looking after it. Can't wait to see it in action soon.

Excellent video. I listened to Car Talk too, but one of the favorite things was lunch on the farm with Paul Harvey’s noon day report on the AM radio...👍

Thanks! I'm still a radio guy, but for some reason my favorite music has migrated to the oldies stations.

Looks like the puller works well!! We had a JD 430 for about 20 years. It ate chains and sprockets! We put new chains on every year and new sprockets every other year. We blew up a few rollers, factory don't last near as long as home made or custom made.. We found double roller bearings that fit, they hold up much better than original.

Yup, I think the puller is a keeper. It probably helps that I don't do a lot of hay any more.

Thanks! They are good balers. As we get older we can still do the work, just not as fast as we used to.

Ah, Car Talk! Loved it, and that project = new tool idea stuck with me too! That hydraulic gear puller is a very worthy purchase! But how did you ever survive without it for so long?! Thanks for the close-ups of the worn gears! They are almost shocking!

Click and Clack, the tappet brothers! Always loved listening to the credits at the end. Thanks Deb!

Folks... it helps a lot to use lube to get a gear off the shaft ! And...since these sprockets are worn out... Cut the sprocket to the hub on both sides. Then heat the hub itself. And cool it as soon as possible to prevent possible bearing damage.

Good job on the baler Pete. You've got me convinced to get that gear puller, have the same work to do on my Vermeer 604 super J, this should make it bearable.
@farmerpete Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The puller sure worked well for me. I think these are a really well built machine.

A standard puller works great too.......with some heat ....lube.......and an electric wrench. But time must be taken to stop at times if its not moving to pound on the sprocket so it will " give ". Heat makes a major difference ........ but get on it..... HOT and get off of it to preserve any possible bearing issues. Heat expands things enough to release rust . Cool.. Then add lube. And even oil it a few days before the fact. Bottom line..... often people ignore oil / lube. As if they are allergic to it. My son is one of those people. He will fight all day with a rusted item. Also had a neighbor who refused to use any lube !!!! One day I helped him.. told him to get some WD-40...he went off to get some wrenches. Returned with nothing. In the mean time I went to the tractor " dip stick " and got a few drops of oil from it. He seen the oil and was furious !!!! He told me to leave the farm. I did ! Thats how set some people are in their ways !

Hi Don! The baler was built in '99, it was five years old when I bought it. We had a nice shower yesterday, first in almost three weeks. Hope you guys get some rain soon!
