why are you counting 8" double hem on top and bottom? if its for the rod, then not all rods need that amount of fabric. and the bottom im assuming for a hem?

The additions are the rule of thumb for calculating how much fabric to buy for your project. They are not a must. You can make adjustments to the numbers to suit your requirements.

Thank you Valrine for a very helpful video - just a question please? Do I need to add the pattern repeat figure for each panel drop or is it just one? Many thanks. By the way I'm doing a 10 panel wide window. Greetings from North Wales UK.

Thanks for your warm greetings, lovely words and question! I appreciate you! You will need to add the pattern repeat for each panel, because each time you cut a panel, you will need to adjust the fabric to line up the pattern(s) for the next panel. It is lovely to actually know some of the place where my videos are being watched, so, thank you so much. All the best with your project.

what if my pattern repeat is 2" its a scalloped design and its really not so wide of a repeat like you show here? should i put that in consideration? or not? bec i would love to connect the 2 panels on the top of the curtain where the rod is and then keep the panels open so you can see out the window. im hoping you understand me.

I would consider the pattern repeat. So long as there is a distinct pattern repeat, no matter how small, I consider it. You do not want to take your fabric home and not have enough to match up your patterns. it is always better more than less. the left over remnant can be used for pillows or other accessories.

@@valrinevernonhome i realized after I came home that pattern repeat is any pattern. My husband told me cuz it’s done by computer. So I didn’t consider it for white material. But if I don’t attach the panels ontop doi still need to consider pattern repeat? I already bought the fabric and I bought 10 yards. I’m hoping I didn’t mess it up. I’m sure there are options what I can do. Im putting a solid liner maybe I can make a border from that on bottom, it could look beautiful.

i think i made a mistake today that i bought 54" fabric cuz i wanted my curtains to be more full but i just realized now it wont be as full as i wanted. i have double window each one 35" altogether 70" wide. i wanted to make 2 panels. i am wondering if i am making a 7' length curtain and 70" wide window if the 10 yard of fabric that is 54" wide going to be enough to connect the 2 panels ontop or will it be too skimpy?

If your window is 35" two 54" width, joined, will give you about triple fullness, give or take, on the one side. If length is 7' ( 7x12)=84" + hems 16" = 100" Then you will need 2×100"= 200" ÷36= 5.56 yards per window. 5.56 × 2= 11.12 yards First, measure the fabric because sometimes you may get a bit more. I find that l do sometimes. Then, try adjusting the hem measurements to see if that helps. Otherwise, you could consider adding a band of coordinating fabric across your curtains to make up the difference. The band could be at the upper half or lower half, depending on the profile/ design of your window. Please let me know if this helps.

@@valrinevernonhome I’m gonna see if I could this. Maybe I’ll make smaller hem on bottom and top and see if it helps I could also make the length shorter cuz I measured extra high then I have to have. So it might work, but I’m gonna make 2 panels, and the fabric is white maybe I won’t have to do pattern repeat let’s see what happens, and I love the border you mentioned it’s brilliant! K I’m feeling more positive I’ll keep u posted! Love love the scarf valance it’s brilliant, sweet and easy.I’m gonna definitely try it for another window

@@valrinevernonhome i just measured my fabric with the pattern and i have 59"x360"L do you think i could do a 6' length curtain for my 70"wide double window that i want 2 panels? one on each side? i know you helped me measure. would you pleasure help me out i bought less then i should have and i made the mistake of not calculating pattern repeat. i know i could make smaller hems ontop and bottom. if i could avoid buying more fabric and add to what i have would be important to me. so if you could help me figure this out. please please? i already spent much money on my fabric and i dont want to have to buy more if i can help it. thank you !!
