I now have fourteen drones. Everyone has difficulty in the beginning. I've had to climb trees, wade through thorns and crap, had one fly away (i never found it), had one land and die on top of a Toys R Us, crashed tons of times, had to learn to fix them,..... Still not a pro but I'm a lot better than I was. It's a fun but expensive hobby.

I did that once and almost lost both. One landed on top of my house with no power to lift off again. Suspended a bent coat hanger from a larger drone. After a few tries I hooked it! But it was too heavy. I managed to have the larger one drag the downed drone until they both fell to the ground. Minimal damage, thankfully. The Toyz R Us manager was kind enough to receive that one for me. I was flying in their parking lot at about 1:30am. Had to wait until they opened the next day.

This video just paints a wrong picture of how you get started into drones. It's much more simple! You don't need FPV! In fact, all these add-ons/gimmicks make everything more complicated. Buy a Syma X5C and learn the controls (maybe use a simulator app on your phone!). Then try to fly it. Let your brain do the rest. If anyone starts with GPS, OK, he can fly on GPS. But he can't fly a drone!

Hey Vern salutations from Ford City PA, USA,i thought you did really good for your first time flying a drone, in fact you did a hell of a lot better than most people would have, just keep flying, and it will come pretty easy soon enough one tip i would like to share with you is when the drone is facing you if it is going to the right, push the right stick on the radio to the right and the quadcopter will then go left, always remember when the drone is facing you,right is left and left is right on the control sticks. I got one of the small drones like you have and i do good to keep it in the air and even one time i panicked and pushed the wrong lever and my drone went out of sight and i figured out what i had done and tried to spot it but only by chance heard it on the way down and had to walk back and forth across a hay field for 45 minutes before i was lucky enough to find it. Thanks for sharing this video Verne. You are the coolest.

You can see it can be really difficult for him to manipulate everyday devices. These are things the rest of us take for granted because everything is made to fit the size of our hands and arms. I haven't seen Verne in a long time so it's good to see him doing fun stuff like this again. He'll always be the great Mini-Me :)

I started out with the Hubsan H107 quadcopter with no GPS and it took me 3 months to learn how to fly it so it's not something you learn right away. So have fun and enjoy the experience.

well, for a first time pilot, you are not the worst I have seen by far. Most first timers do a yoyo phase just trying to hover. You advanced past that directly to the next step of "where the heck is this thing pointed, OMG its in a tree" phase. been there, crashed that. Welcome to the hobby! I hope you really enjoy drones and FPV flying, I know I do. Check out Rotor Riot, they took there drones over to Ukraine to visit Chernobyl and got some great footage!
