Do like the overhead camera, along with excellent still image shot made it very easy to follow. You did mention the importance of calibration, many do rely on cheap gauges for certain readings without calibration. Tyre pressure gauges spring to mind. Video presentation was very good there Ben.

Many thanks Geoff, you are very kind. Yes, gauges need to be checked. Doubly so in a machine shop. Many thanks for watching!

Great Vid Ben, you really want to blow their minds show them how to use a slide rule!!

I would, but it's quicker to do the sums by hand than use a slide rule for me! (Asside from Trig and logs) mind you, could do one though. Many thanks for watching!

It's years since I had a proper Vernier caliper and I have to relearn every time I do. It looks like I'll be back to view this video quite a bit. So thanks for that Ben. (Keep us posted on the heater repair, by the way...)

Good show mate. I use a digital caliper all the time. Everybody should have done sort of caliper in their box.

This is a good explanation Ben. I inherited a 150mm Mitutoyo caliper from my late Father. It sat around for years unused and I used one of those cheap digital Chinese calipers instead. I'm not sure how accurate those are, but the numbers change depending on how much pressure you apply. Anyway, accurate, while the digital caliper is used to get approximate measurements
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop Жыл бұрын
The reason why the digital ones change with pressure is that they flex a little, which is where the feel comes in. I tend to push the jaws on those, rather than the readout end as you are not flexing things then. I quite like the manual ones (and micrometers) because they don't have batteries which don't like the cold. Many thanks for watching!

@Ben's Workshop I don't have a KZbin channel, really. Just personal stuff, though that may change. So cant really share. Have you done a video on using a wood lathe? That would definitely interest me.

Finally got round to watching this one Ben - busy start to the year and I wanted to get my first 2023 video out before I caught up with everything else. Nice set of calipers those - obviously I have a couple of sets of the digi ones, and a couple of pretty cheap analogue ones where the vernier scale is so crude that you can only see there or thereabouts which line is matching - fine for most of the non critical stuff I do with them all the same. Predictably enough I always work in metric, just to annoy you - and I drink coffee not tea!!!!!

@@BensWorkshop Haha, that made me laugh!!! You're right about the batteries - I've lost count of how many times I've reached for my digi verniers only to find the battery was flat.
