My dad grew up in Detroit. I remember Vernors being the only soda my grandfather drank. I still drink it myself on occasion. It does have unique taste.

Back in the 70s they were auctioning Vernors 1/2 barrels on the pbs channel. I won one of the barrels thinking I would make a planter or something. When I got it home and actually inspected it, the inside was coated with crystallized Vernors syrup. Not only did it smell absolutely wonderful, but picking at the the chunks of ginger ale sugar bits was better than any candy. That barrel never became a planter.

When I was growing up in Detroit my aunt Arlene would let us make Vernors floats with vanilla bean Ice cream every new year's eve before the ball dropped....Thanks Aunt Arlene...love you.

Growing up in Detroit, I had the pleasure of going to the plant and getting Vernors fresh off the line. I still drink it to this day!

It's always nice to reminisce about the Detroit area. We went Xmas caroling with the scouts in the 70s and people would offer us hot Vernors. Admittedly I don't care for ginger ale but I like your videos and I knew you would show/speak of many things I grew up around. I don't really care for the Better Made potato chips some Detroiters are crazy about but if you cover them I will be watching. Or Stroh's beer. Hint.

Greatest one yet. Thank you. I'm a Detroiter. Have to share, Comedy Central had a series "Detroiters" (thank you Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson) just a few years back, it only made it two seasons but it really was great to see all the things that were quirky to only those that live in this area. Vernors was definitely highlighted, along with coney dogs, the auto industry, our silly local commercials and some amazing architecture. I rewatch the series all the time.

I, remember Vernon's from back in the day. I, remember when Vernors had a bottling plant on Woodward Ave and Forest on the Westside of Detroit. After, when Vernors closed the bottling plant. The, Vernors bottling was demolished and a gas station was built on the corner of Woodward Ave and Forest. The, entire gas station takes up the block where the Vernors bottling plant once stood. Vernors is not as good, as it used to be years ago. But, I still remember the Boston Coolers with Vernors and Vanilla Ice Cream.

Check out the Vernor's building in downtown Flint, Michigan. It now houses a Halo Burger but, The ornate wrought iron railing and Miro(?) panting on the side of the building. So cool !

Never tried, though I'd like to. I bought a bottle of a craft brew of diet gingerale once and it was so hot that I couldn't even enjoy it. I don't mind a little spicy, but this stuff was volcanic.

I grew up in Pontiac in the 40s and 50s. When I was younger than 12 years, a relative worked in the Vernor’s store/soda fountain in Pontiac. Sometimes Mom would take my brother, sister and I on the bus downtown. A special treat was a stop at the Vernor’s store where the relative would allow us to have any kind of float, soda, shake, or whatever - all made with Vernors. No other competing “pops.” Wonderful memories. Too bad that Vernors taste was destroyed by cans and plastic. 2:02

You do an excellent job with your photos. I'm just amazed because I recognize so many of the vehicles, know the year they were made. I have a thing for old cars, trucks and buses. WOW! What a great walk down Memory Mountain. Oh, you know when you are old: When you know the dates of vehicles that are at least 80 years old or older.

My parents were born and raised in Detroit and I grew up in Onsted Mi and yes we had Vernors in case we got sick and did make those floats they talked about as well. I like Vernonrs, but my favorite pop is Faygo Rock and Rye

The taste of Vernor's has changed. It no longer contains ginger and therefore can not be labelled as "ginger ale." It is now a "ginger soda." The label only says it contains artificial and natural ingredients. The flavor is milder because people in other parts of the country who did not grow up with Vernor's mostly didn't like it. The same company also makes Canada Dry and Schweppes, which do contain ginger and are labeled "ginger ale."

I miss the old Vernors. Had it growing up in Buffalo. The current Vernors with high fructose corn syrup and no mention of ginger is not the same at all. I am looking for a ginger ale that uses real sugar and ginger as the original Vernors did hoping to relive the good old days...have an order of Blenheim arriving this week. If any of you have any ideas or recommendations I would love to hear it!

Not sure why this ginger ale is so popular and taste look at the ingredients. You don't see Ginger anywhere it just says natural flavors. Now look at Sprecher's ginger ale that actually says ginger in it. And it's got a big ass Spike and you could taste the ginger immediately it's not water down like Vernors and Canada Dry crap
