That would almost be the AnyTone AT-D578UVIII PRO DMR Mobile Radio except that is isn't programmed by a phone app and it actually has a display.

You Can have that, all one would need to do is simply open up their wallet and buy a flagship DMR Motorola radio.

This seems like it was first designed for the commercial business sector where its almost always kept on the same channel. Having it app controlled would prevent tampering.

I think this is a rad idea and opens up a world of possibilities. Users already like radios with nice touchscreens like the FTM-400 and of course a various of the ICOM base units. This gives users that same functionality for a fraction of the price. Having a nice tablet in the car would be nice too. I also think this could open up the possibility for regular non-hams to use a backup communication service like GMRS without needing to know how to operate a radio. Just open an app on your phone. Would need to be proper part certified here in the USA, but still it doesn't seem far fetched at all for this to become a standard.

Interesting unit but not convinced yet, I’d be too worried about apps going unsupported and then my device going obsolete. Also think the price point is a little high for a device requiring a phone/ no screen. That said the geek in me is intrigued and would like a play. Would be great on my bike. Great vid.

I actually expected something similar to this from my FTM-400: Can’t understand why I need an additional screen when my car already has a nice touch screen right in the perfect spot, and a phone is the perfect interface for those Apple CarPlay/Android Auto equipped vehicles. A phone app also makes sure the infotainment system mutes other sound sources when a signal is received on the radio, making it easier for a driver to focus on the road when talking. On the other hand, I would really like to have some kind of control backup for that time when Android and iOS devices stop supporting this product (which will eventually happen, hopefully just not in the very near future). I may buy one when they release a complete iOS app, and then my FTM-400 could end in a go-box.

It was not clear from your video if the aprs data is using the rf or the internet and if it uses the rf does the radio have dual rx/TX so it is still usable for voice access?
@TechMindsOfficial5 жыл бұрын
The APRS uses internet and RF, like a gateway, it can be turned on or off within the software. Not sure about two vfo tho, I think it’s just one but it does have DW

I was confused by the APRS function... does this have a built-in TNC or does the app only utilize online APRS functionality?

No the radio doesn’t have an inbuilt TNC, I wish it did! All the APRS comes via the app, we’ll, on the android version at least. The iOS app doesn’t have that feature as of yet.

I have one on the way but worried now because I have been completely UNABLE to get the app the way you did. It downloads into the same app you have but will not transfer over to the apk files with the .zip attached. I even tried renaming it without the .zip at the end. It show up in the file but unresponsive. If I don't get the app I won't need the radio! Anyone done it on the Pixel 2 running android 10? Asking for a friend...

@@TechMindsOfficial Got it finally. I had to download a RAR app. Google files kept separating the files. The RAR app prompted me to allow the links to remain in place (I guess). Nice review! Have a look at your first repeater you programmed. I think you made a typo! A lot of reviews on this radio are good, but some are asking for more features. The radio has APRS and apparently a Morse Code decoder in the software. It makes me wonder what its true capabilities are. Edit: Do you think this radio is full duplex? Can it work a satellite? What modes can this radio operate in? 73!
@TechMindsOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Yeh I noticed I made a typo lol.. Personally I think this radio “could” be amazing. I say “could” because currently the API is not released and may not be. As a developer of iOS and Android apps myself, I have endless amounts of ideas and features which could be created for this radio. I hope they release the API information to public to save us having to reverse engineer it! Nope, not full duplex unfortunately

This radio is useless in areas with handsfree laws where you can't even touch the phone unless you want to scroll up and down through your memories. If I were going to get this, I'd dedicate a small tablet for control instead of trying to juggle phone apps.

A lot of car head units run android these days so the app could be installed there. I definately wouldn’t recommend installing on a phone if you’re going to drive and want to fiddle with channels etc. But it does have Bluetooth PTT or change channel on the mic

Hmm access to my contacts & call history ? Why ? Kit which relies on phone apps and is released before the app is completed. Nope, you can keep it thank you.

@jlukshooting5 жыл бұрын
No it isn't complete. It still shows bits in chinese. QA of the app hasn't been done well, what else hasn't been completed correctly. Public facing interface cannot have basic errors or trust that the product works has been lost.

@TechMindsOfficial5 жыл бұрын
I was referring to features, but yeh, some txt in the app is in Chinese. Well, this is pretty much a preview model because CE and FCC approval isn’t being completed until end of November when the product will official launch I believe. Personally I think this is an exciting new product, regardless of any unfinished items at this particular stage. The features this has with the apps is like no other radio out there. Sure, we have Bluetooth compatibility on some radios, but nothing like this. I think it’s going to be extremely popular for certain markets.
