Yeah. Great info for people who are scared to even attempt to clean feather blankets. I' ve laundered mine for decades. 3 tips - 1 is baking soda alone works well if you don't want to use bleach after all gardeners have used b.soda to kill all kinds of things. 2 I clean in the summer months when the heat of the weather helps in drying those last stubborn clumps oh and fluffing by hand as was mentioned is a friend. I have two blankets per bed no winter time washing. 3 also works on feather coats - need to turn inside out and just hang to allow the final little wet spots to air dry Good video

Thanks! I have a nice down comforter.. but when it needed cleaning I thought that down couldn't be washed so took it to a dry cleaner. They didn't even want to do it, and charged me an arm and a leg, and when I got it back I wrapped it well and stored it; I haven't had the desire to go through that again! Now I feel I can put it in a duvet cover and actually use it, knowing I can wash it when needed.

But my down piece is neither comforter or duvet. It's thicker, about 4in's. Very squared with cotton piped edges. Compartments with a feathered, squared edged, sort of barrier sewn on its edge & all sides.(2in) Looks approx. queen sized. Can I clean it the same way?

Hi there! I am not sure if you guys will see this comment in time, but long story short I bought a used down comforter in great condition. I of course wanted to wash it, so I washed it with warm water in a at home machine. When I took it out, it smelled like wet dog. It was in the dryer all day long and it still smelled awful. I rushed it to the dry cleaners! After having it dry cleaned, it did not smell at first. Then I laid it out all day on a drying rack, to let it breathe and that awful smell came back. Tomorrow morning, I plan to take it to the laundry mat and do exactly what your video said to do. I am thinking I should add two cups of white vinegar along with the bleach. I read that vinegar helps with mildew. I am worried that this comforter is ruined and mildew is starting to grow within the feathers. I am at a loss. Do you think this comforter is done for? I appreciate any feedback you have! Thank you, Sydney
@Verolinens4 жыл бұрын
Sorry that you are having this issue. Vinegar is a great cleaner and is gentle on the down. I might try that 1st. If this doesn't take care of the odor, try the bleach. As we have noted bleach can be a little hard on the cotton shell and the down, but it is an effective sanitizer.

Bleach is hard on cotton and down as we explained, however if you are washing the comforter once a year, we think you should be ok. I bought a new down comforter but forget to lay it out for several hours to let it fluff up and instead used it almost straight away that night. It's still flat. Will this tennis ball trick and drying it work?
@Verolinens3 жыл бұрын
You comforter may not have a lot of down in it. You don't need to lay it on the bed to bring loft in it, just grab it my an edge and vigorously shake it. If that doesn't bring air back into it, your comforter doesn't have enough down in it to provide loft. If it is keeping you sufficiently warm, your all set. If not, you may want to ensure your next one has more down.

I don’t know if your still active on KZbin but I’m at boyfriends house, he has a down comforter and I spilled ecig juice on it. It’s like an oil. I dabbed a little laundry detergent on it, let it sit, then I scrubbed it and really massaged in the detergent. and rinsed with water but because the comforter is dark grey I can’t tell if I got the stain out. The water made it dark and the water spread so now the water spot is about a foot long. I’m hoping I got the stain out and I’m drying the comforter in a dryer on low heat. It’s a small dryer but since it’s only one spot I’m hoping that it’s okay. Please help me or reply!!! He just got it dry cleaned and spent all this money and I don’t want him to come home and see I left a giant stain. I just want to know if there’s anything else I should be doing!

We would recommend laundering the entire comforter rather than spot cleaning it.

Instead of using bleach to kill the dust mites is it a better idea to use eucalyptus Oil?
@Verolinens7 жыл бұрын
I just can't say, I don't know anything about Eucalyptus Oil - sorry.
@watchgoose6 жыл бұрын
I prefer an acidic wash like hair shampoo plus peroxide (3-1/2 percent). That plus the warm water plus the dryer heat is going to get rid of mites. You can also run the comforter through a medium dryer BEFORE you wash it to kill mites.

Shoulder area?
@Verolinens4 жыл бұрын
Were not sure what you are questioning. If you are referring to wear, comforters typically wear out first in the area that is directly over your shoulders, this is due to the friction created between the down clusters as you toss and turn. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the great tips! The only thing I disagree with though is letting the duvet air-dry on your mattress if you're trying to avoid dust mites. They thrive in humid environments so it's always best to avoid humidity in your mattress. I think it's best to hang your duvet somewhere else (preferably outside in the sun) if it's still damp after putting it in the dryer.

We are talikg about if you bring your Down Comforter home from the Laundry Mat and it is slightly damp. Of course you could take it out side and drape it over a chair or something else. @Verolinens Жыл бұрын
If your doing this with a home drier, it can take a long time. This is why we recommend taking it to a Laundromat, as the driers are often much larger than those found in a home. Be sure to check out our 150+ "How to Video" found here - www.verolinens.com/how-to-luxury-bed-sheets-linens-tips/

I agree, laundromats are dirty. There is no way in hell im putting my white down comforter in a public washer or dryer I don’t care what size they are. Some people are nasty the will launder animal blankets and dirty diapers. Gross no thanks. Just dry it longer at home in your regular sized dryer.
