An ex-girlfriend that was a fashion model introduced me to this about 15 years ago, saying it was her favorite men’s scent. And it’s been my go to cologne ever since. It’s very strong, but not overpowering, with woodsy and citrus undertones. It lasts quite a long time after application. I have received many compliments on it.

I recall when this was launched back in 86. I stepped into an elevator where a gentleman was wearing it and needed to know what it was. While it seems a touch smoother today, it hasn’t been totally butchered by reformulations. Regarding oakmoss - there are companies (Guerlain being one) that use a new fractionated version of it - it has the allergenic bits removed, and I wouldn’t be shocked it that’s what was used in the Versace scent. I still enjoy wearing it very much! An Italian classic!

@marshallross79282 жыл бұрын
I saw this on sale and blind bought because $28 was a steal for it and I honestly did not like it at first, I thought it smelled beyond my age and maybe I couldn’t pull it off, too barbershop-y, but I work from home and I love using colognes and just being able to smell obnoxious while I work and it truthfully helps invigorate me, and if not the scent, the quality of this fragrance will win you over. I started using it as deodorant and spraying it on my underarms, for the most part it doesn’t irritate my skin and is actually very effective for me. It blends really well into the skin and my unique, natural odor is best suited for spicy fragrances like polo red or Eros flame but this fragrance fits me well. This is such a layered, textured scent that it is hard to get bored of, every day it smells different based on the temperature and what notes you seem to pick out more that day. Some days it smells very musky floral, some days it smells more spicy barbershop and I enjoy that range that this fragrance has. Some may not like this, it smells extremely in your face and has a swagger and aggressiveness to it that not everyone you encounter will like, but don’t wear it for them, wear it for you.

I don’t think the people who dismiss Versace L’Homme are giving it a proper go. The opening was overwhelming and made me regret buying a bottle, but once the dry down hit, this fragrance took a turn for the best. I mainly get a spicy, semisweet patchouli suede smell, and almost a waxy vibe. I prefer Guerlain Vetiver to L’Homme as classic scents go, but I’ll always have a bottle handy. Excellent performance, too. More classic fragrance reviews please, Steven, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on Guerlain Vetiver.

This punches almost as good as Fahrenheit for a 3rd of the price. If I was gonna rank this out of the ones I have it’s 2, actually arguably projects more then Fahrenheit . I’d say Fahrenheit,Versace, Polo Green, And then Drakkar and Obsession close.

I picked it up at a rack store. It took me a while to figure out the difference between Versace L'Homme and Versace Pour Homme. I will snatch up Versace Pour Homme in the rack store if I ever see it. Summer is over in Southern California, and it has finally cooled down enough to start thinking about fragrances other than high-heat fragrances. Versace L'Homme is perfect for post-summer weather.

This is the only one I have left out of my rotation I had in the 1980's and 1990's. I always went for the Chypre-types all year round, top notes all fresh and citrusey, middle notes warm or floral or woodsy or combos of, something sophisticated and complicated while the freshness stayed around on top keeping it all fresh and light, and base notes always woody/mossy/(vanilla maybe) and stayed lingering on my skin for hours and hours on their own after everything else had died away. I never cared what the weather was like back in those days, it could be as cold as all F and I would still be wearing this scent profile. But within that profile I did wear variations and this fragrance was the heaviest version in my rotation and was good for colder months, Chanel Pour Monsieur would be the one I brought out in the hot summer months, Armani or Givenchy would go somewhere in between. This is the only one from those days I still wear, I know they've reformulated virtually everything at some point (the industry started restricting oakmoss I believe due to irritation concerns and they can't use it now like they did then, and so the depth and longevity many fragrances used to have back then suffered) but this current version of L'Homme is still close to the OG as far as my memory can tell, it has the same personality and vibe, just it's lost some depth. Starts-off really strong and turns into this sumptuous complicated leathery peppery (for the want of a better word) floral citrus concoction which wears beautifully on my skin and smells adorable right to the end. Spray this on your chest and then 5 or 6 hours later pull out your shirt, bend ur head down and put ur nose right near the opening and take a deep whiff and it's effing yummy. It's just a beautiful fragrance and one of my alltime faves. It's a sophisticated masculine scent good for formal occasions and events, business wear, anytime you want to feel extra spesh and opulent, but really I love it so much I'll even wear it to the supermarket sometimes because why not.

I bought it when I first got into fragrances by mistake. I was looking for Versace pour homme and got this one instead. I got it in, sprayed it and I was like oh no wth is this!? Put it back into the box. 4-5 days went by. And for some reason I continued to think about the fragrance and when that happens, I know I need to revisit it. Sprayed it again and was like here we go. Two on the wrists, two on the neck. Opening I do not like, the lemon is too much. But after that clears out, the dry down is really good to me. It has a dirty sexy vibe to it that makes the ladies call me daddy. Lol

I've been wanting this one for a while, after owning what is now vintage The Dreamer and buying what's affordable for that I realized it like many others is ruined compared to the OG, so I bought the vintage Dreamer and wow what a difference, so I think if I get the Versace L'Homme I'll have to go for the vintage, I've been on a vintage fragrance purchasing frenzy and all I can say is they USED to do it right, now with all the reformulations it's sad when someone gets something and think it smells amazing and has no idea, another perfect example is all the reformulated replacement garbage for the OG Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme 1994 Italy version, and I can't for the life of me figure out why none of these Middle Eastern fragrance houses hasn't cloned it yet when they've already cloned D&G Intenso 🤷

It's horrific. I love the ingredients, yet what I smell is the worst scent on the market today. Did a swap at the weekend for my Phantom. Told my nephew to keep it and he's sold it to a friend and kept my Phantom 😂😂 I find it very hard to dislike perfumes but this was easy. Not even a 2 dollar barbershop would use this unless trying to kill any insects that have popped in for a trim. How you've managed to say anything pleasant about this is outstanding work by yourself Sir. I salute you..

I got this in May. I was 11 when this came out & the smell reminds me of my grandfather. To me, it's what "men" are supposed to smell like. Interesting review! I have a bottle (full presentation) of Versace L'Homme, and I get a BUTTLOAD of oakmoss from it. It actually does work well on my skin, and gets me compliments, but it's not really my favorite. I think my dislike comes from a teacher/coach I had in grade school. He'd spray on so much it smelled like it was oozing out of his pores (might have even sprayed some in his mouth) to cover the scent of booze and weed on him...he was a fairly abusive person. Anyway! Was just unpacking some boxes from years ago and found this today so was curious what the internet thought about it. I remember I got it on clearance in 2010 for $10. I remember spraying this and being so taken aback by how powerful this thing was but by like 20 minutes in, it really turned into something special. This was the first cologne I ever wore that multiple times strangers at stores when I was out shopping actually came up and asked me what cologne it was. In the times since I've had Creed, D&B, Bvlgari, Lacoste, and others, never happened since. Though, maybe I have just gotten old and uglier since than! Haha. The thing was unique (in the beach town I was at) and could pull eyes in a room in 2010, and I'm sure in 2021 it's still strange, still unique, and still weird (compared to all the modern fragrances) and still going strong. Awesome to see a video on this!

Awesome review! I had this in 2015, I liked it, my wife thought it smelt like ginger! I found myself craving this scent again lately, so I came to check this review to refresh my nose's memory! I was born in 82 but the 90s fragrances and early 2000s have more impact on my nostalgia. Would you consider making a video about how perfumes go through changes for each decade, and how it's a bit of a mystery how we associate a scent from the 80s or some 90s ones to "old" and "out of time"? A question that doesn't make sense but does for this situation: What's the benchmark for taste? Will these contemporary and modern fragrances flooding the shelves now be considered old in 20 years from now? Anyways, Thanks for the review! 👍🏻😊

I'm a 54 yr old fragrance enthusiast, but only new to the field. I have this. It's not as appealing as I'd hoped-perhaps because of it's dated composition, but likely to the level of my maturity. Oak moss. Lemon. Civet. These stand out. Maybe the carnation as well (i think i cannot appreciate carnation). It's a very powerful scent too, no less than Eros. I'm interested to learn more about the chypre and fougere accords (Rogue Perfumery up next-i have the full sample pack) but can leave the animalistic notes for others. Anyone have any tips or frags in this vein they like?

Very classy fragrance.

I tried it, but I don't feel the need to own it. Why? It is not "old school" enough. If I want something modern, I will wear a "blue fragrance", if I want something old-school, I'll go with the original Aramis - it's one that I wear despite some negative reactions from the ones around me.

Yeah, I do have the Aramis also, and I do have the old green polo.

Oakmoss isn't banned, houses just have to buy a more expensive rectified version with the toxins taken out. I have new fragrances which list evernia prunastri extract as an ingredient.

So essentially it isn't true Oakmoss then? Hence 100% pure Oakmoss IS in fact banned....

Also, given that this fragrance can be bought new, it obviously doesn't contain any "banned" ingredients.

I've never tried this and I'm thinking about buying it that's why I looked at this review. Don't get me wrong I like a lot of colognes from this era. I was born in 1986 the same year this came out. So my understanding of colognes was in the 90s, so these kind of colognes are right up my alley. I'm sick of spraying on cologne and 2 hours later you can't smell it. I like to smell the cologne that I'm wearing. So I think this would be a good fit for me. I wish that these fragrance houses would just stop making edts and just make edp's, or higher. Or at the very least less Edt's . I understand there are good number of Etds that do project, But the vast majority do not. The last long with it way of saying what I'm trying to say is. Make a manly sent that last.

I just smelt it 3 times on random people and all the 3 times i turned my head and went to ask what they wearing. I am surprised why this classic beast is underrated.

It is a very old timey fragrance. It definitely has a "toilet cleaner" type smell to it but that is not a bad thing because toilet cleaner smells quite nice lol My advice would be not to blind buy this unless you have the money to spare. It is not that expensive but for anyone on a budget, there are safer blind buys out there.

Nice review Steven. Love these old school masculine barbershop style scents. Kouros, Aramis, Polo Green etc. These were my goto aftershaves in my youth. Agree with you on Lapidus however. A step too far on the animalic side for me.
