In the first five minutes, the video shows you what you can do with the generator in Substance Player.
The actual tutorial starts at 5:35
There will be two other parts. One for the text and picture carving into the wood. And one last video to present the color, normal and roughness pass. So everything will be covered, except the exposed parameters. That will be for another time and an easier subject.

Man, you are an absolute genius! The attention to detail is staggering!

Thanks a ton! I rather have you go over and explain what you did than watch someone 2 hours putting his graph together without comment. Making substance tutorials per se is really difficult as you'd need to do a script spanning the whole creation of the graph, which is a lot for all the nodes in the end. Making a commented breakdown is IMO the best tradeoff to make there. You can spare me all the backtracking in creating a graph, and I can just take the time and pause when I need to copy some values. Really helpful so far! (Hope it stays that way ;))

Thanks a lot! Most of the time, the comments tend to suggest more assisted tutorials where I lay out all the nodes and explain why. I'm ok with that approach. But for complex subjects, it's not realistic, as with this wood texture.

@@danieljrgameart You are already spoon-feeding. Who isn't able to follow this, probably needs help with tying his shoe laces as well. I was perfectly able to follow. Idk how you learned all this, but I sure learned a ton. I really hope to get to your level some day!

To be fair, I totally understand that going through the thought process of why I use this or that node, and how I determine the values, etc. might be more interesting than just saying do this or that withtout explaining why. I learn by mixing what I read or watch (documentation, streams, articles) with experimenting. I actually learned most of it by producing tutorials :)

@@danieljrgameart It might be more interesting, but I learn more from experimenting myself. If I follow a breakdown I usually play with the values to see what would happen with different values. It just forces me to dig into the graph and understand what is happening, rather than someone telling me something I will forget an hour later. I mean, the why is self evident, just look at the viewport. No need for lengthy explainations which could easily make this a 6 hour walkthrough IMO. But I understand why people want that. Tutorials have something soothing. Stepping through breakdowns is much less enjoyable, but much more rewarding in terms of results (focus on material, not the why) and learn effect. I think the most important thing I've learned here is attention to detail; throughoutly planning what sections I need in advance instead of just mindlessly stuffing nodes together. With a vague image of what I want to have I will stop too early, forgetting about all these minor details that make up reality, but aren't in my mental image. Finding good reference and analysing it, is the foundation of any good material. Before I was kinda half assed in that regard. Thanks again for sharing what you learnt. I already downloaded your whole channel, just in case ;)

You sumed it up extremely well! So it's virtually impossible to please everyone. And that's okay. I just try to mix the formats a bit. Regarding the layers of details, I feel the same way, it's like everyday you can break another barrier. Or not everyday, but on a regular basis. By the way, I'm drafting a list of futures tutorials ideas. So if you have suggestions of topics, I'm interested to know them.

Great video, but its really hard to follow with all the nodes laid out prior.

Yes I understand. Personnaly I prefer that way, as a viewer, but with complex graphs, maybe it's easier when it's done from scratch. I'll think about it.

@@danieljrgameart the stuff your doing is brilliant as an overview and the final output is superb. Problem following it step by step because your zoomed into nodes etc. It's hard to judge.

Super informative, but I feel like the Plank Damages frame section isn't completely thorough
