If you are using a 20m chord, then the stations to take measurements should be every 10m. Hold one end of the chord on station 1 and the other end on station 3 and measure from the rail to the string at station 2. The next measurement should be at station 3 with the ends at stations 2 and 4. Really you should have started at station -2 to have included station 0 or the beginning of the curve. I spent about 20 years calculating and staking out railroad tracks. We use degree of curve which is defined as the central angle subtended by the radii of a 100-foot chord. The formula is sin 1/2D(c) = 50/R R is in feet D(c) is degree of curve for chord definition. Our highway departments use the arc definition of degree of curve which is the central angle subtended by the radii of an arc of 100 feet. The formula for D(a) is D(a)/100 = 360*/2PiR or D(a) = 5729.58/R For railroads, the survey line is the center of the track or at half gauge.
