I have been in my local Labour Party in Portsmouth that a system of participatory budgeting needs to be adopted as policy and to include a more deliberative democracy model into Portsmouth city council and as a candidate for may 2020 local elections I want to use the arguments and principles that George puts forward in how we change things locally. When he discussed PB he became my new hero and legend. I have so much time for this man everything he says I cannot fault. And he has inspired me to go ahead and give voters a story as well as policies. Cheers George

Really great interview. Thoroughly enjoyable to listen to this one, and hits a couple of the key high-points from the book. Definitely interested in learning more.

George Monbiot is a modern day hero . It was known as the battle of armageddon and now it is clear this battle is between Materialistic greed and Spiritual sacrifice . That is the choice we all have to make a individuals and as nations.

Particularly interested in the section regarding human behaviour and the natural tendency to be altruistic, emphatic and social. Does anyone know the sources from which these points came? I am asking as it relates to a university assignment I am currently writing about inclusion. Thanks

Love George Monbiot. The simple reason the world/civilisation is in this mess, is we have run all our systems with materialistic principles and the only future [if there is one] is to turn all are systems into systems based on spiritual principles.

George Monbiot is a present day hero alongside others like Russell Brand,Marianne Williamson, Dr Jordan Peterson, Jason Shon Bennett, David Icke, George Galloway, Roger Waters, Dr John Bergman [to new just a few]. The spiritual revolution has begun and is growing every single day. Re -Educate yourself and joint this beautiful revolution.

What does Labour need to do over the next month? How would you get the Labour leadership to listen to your advice?

This is an interesting and hopeful narrative. Why do you think that the Labour Party is performing so badly politically?

Project all current socioeconomic trends into the near future and it's abundantly clear that humanity is heading towards a brick wall. We either collectively address that and work towards mitigation and cooperation, thus returning to a much simpler way of life,or the entirety of civilization is going to faceplant so hard it's going to make Mad Max look like a tropical holiday.

George, this is a nice story to tell and to listen to, but many - including myself - look at history and see another vision, and where we are going and eventually where we land, there will be no cycle or repeated narrative. As of human empathy well where was it during the 30 year wars, then 1914 then 1940 on and on ? now that most nations are armed to the teeth with doomsday weapons and xenophobia and nationalism and neo-liberalism are the order of the day. Thanks for cheering me up though.

Altruistic empathetic doesn't at all apply to psychopaths. And yet those dangerous individuals frequently occupy highest positions of power in modern society (CEOs, politicians, corporate entrepreneurs etc). There is no good sollution to deal with them.

If socialists understanding campaigning so well, why are we not getting socialist governments? Why do we end up with Trump and Johnson?

start by introducing proportional representation,, making lying to parliament subject to purgary ,, maximising political donations to a thusand pounds from any organisation or individual,, without this there can never be any political change

A really good guy. He is trying and has many good ideas. However, he seems to be proposing socialism/Marxism, the experiments in China and the Soviet union only caused misery and environmental damage on a massive scale.

If you want a vision of the future you have to first understand what people like Marx and Engels envisaged for mankind. They knew that if we collectively owned the industries, land etc and people produced what was needed then "we" could make the decisions that good for the majority people and the environment. As soon as you hear George Monbiot talking about a society with rich people then alarm bells should ring that there also is a society of poor people as well.

It doesn't help by continuing to pretend to be 'sapient' and 'civilised'... These are the blind assumptions that lead to all other 'wrongness' in human activity..
