Max should be like 50 points ahead if he wasn't so unlucky, between his tyres blowing out of nowhere, Hamilton sending him into the wall, Bottas causing a crash that made him lose half of his floor for the entire race, his upcoming engine penatly... Not really. Checo is too far back to be able to support Max in the fight against the Mercedes, it will be a 1v2 battle tomorrow. Bottas just need to stay close enough to Verstappen to pull off an undercut and force him to react, while Hamilton can just go with the optimal strategy. Seems to be an easy win for Lewis

Great track to watch a lap on, but terrible for racing. The only DRS zone is too short and the rest of the track is sweeping corner after sweeping corner, which means no heavy braking zones for overtakes.

@@Ritermann Yep.. T11 is a decent braking zone, but any chance of it being a place to pass was destroyed by sticking the long left hander of T12 immediately following T11. If a driver goes for the pass on the inside of T11, they're immediately out of position for T12.. Even if T12 was a 90° bend, it might be OK. But because its nearly a full 180°, being out of position just means you're stuck outside and will just "slowly" lose track position as the corner goes on.

What mistake did you spot? Verstappen had a better line through Turn 1, look how he positioned the car 30cm+ to the left on entry and 10cm+ to the left on exit, opening up the corner more than Hamilton in order to carry more speed!

@@Iseenoobpeoples The RB is just able to carry higher speeds around corners. Hamilton was braking later and carrying more speed out of corners that helped keep up. There are two different driving styles. Verstappen is an early braker.

There is a suspicion that Mercedes is doing some tricks with intercooler (cooling the air below 10 degrees) to gain more HP ( ~20 ) when going out of slow corners. This has been reported to FIA so we will see the outcome soon.

Not creepy.. Every single driver will be within a couple of feet of each other on every track, in terms of racing line... There are only a couple of corners on the entire calendar that drivers will take differing lines on.. The racing line is the fastest line. The only difference between the drivers will be the entry/mid/exit speeds on the corners, due to different braking styles.. the lines will still be within a foot or two. Their gear shift points will also be nearly identical, with the exception of a few cars on the grid that are running very different ratios to the rest of the grid.

@@pieterpietersen3517 True Max has never driven in current f1 cars here but he did several promotional events in older f1 cars at this circuit when they finished adjustments to the circuit. Max has driven on this circuit plenty of times in different cars in the past few years while Lewis only drove here in his junior class 16 years ago. So it is fair to say that Lewis missing FP2 did hurt his chance at pole. It's all about building confidence at this track since it will punish you if you make a mistake. Still a very nice performance from the top 5 drivers especially Max and Lewis.

@@harrisonfindlow3762 non of the F1 drivers are, but in that league he is, without the fastest car and MaFIA babysitting him, he is kinda worse than Bottas as evident in FP1, FP2 & FP3 in almost every race weekend.

The RB is so much faster through sector 1. Watching through the middle sector I definitely thinks Max’s slightly more aggressive driving style suits this track because of the positive camber. I think Lewis chance for an overtake will be if he can get DRS out of sector 3 on the main straight and into turn 1. Should be a great race.

That's because of the way Max takes that turn 3. Slow in fast out, that helps him all along sector 1.

also alfa romeo and alpha tauri faster than mercedes on the first sector. LOL. no, it is max faster than mercedes drivers on S1, not the car by itself. even gasly and giovinazzi were faster than mercedes drivers on S1 and russel in williams was almost as fast, lol.

It's pretty impressive that Max was able to beat Lewis without DRS. I hope he follows it up in the race because it's going to be some great scenes if he wins.

Crazy how it fits the perfect "fast in the corners" vs "fast in the straights" type of match up. I think strategy will be big tomorrow - as well as who spends less time getting past backmarkers

Yea but that's how LH won titles. No competitor in teammate, then opening his DRS on the straights with no way to defend, then cruise and drive a fuel/tyre schedule. That's literally all he did. He either got pole, or "given" to him by his teammate letting him by. Then drove in clean air. The guy barely ever raced in his entire career, actually makes me laugh..

Don't forget Verstappen had an early upshift at one corner and his DRS had a failure after the last corner. His lap would have been probably 2 tenths faster.
