Versus Short: Kao Cen Darach Vs. Ven Zallow (The Fallen Masters)

Hello, KZbin.
This is Jensaarai, the Nerd-Rage Ranter, and here is my latest Versus Video.
With this one, I'm going to be experimenting with a new, looser format. This will not be a regular thing, as I'm too attached to my original format, but I may use it interchangably.
So, let us begin.

You could actually see allot of Exar Kun inspired movements, though only being natural as Exar Kun basically brought the Saber Staff to light. But his dual wielding technique was simply sublime.

Cao Cen Darach didn't lose to Malgus because he lost his cool. He lost because he was exhausted after fighting two Sith, defeating the master, especially since Ataru is so taxing on the body. That's why he resorted to throwing things at Malgus - he was trying to buy time and get a few precious breaths in.

I would like to have seen more of Darach. I still think Disney/Lucasfilm should make a film about Te Old Republic instead of continuing the story of the films.

An epic battle would be Darth Bane VS Darth Sion. I believe Darth Sion would win for his ability to LITERALLY bring him self back to life but Darth bane would still have a chance and I would love to see this!

Something to consider. Zallow was able to hold off Malgus by himself for considerably longer than Darach did. Also consider this is a much stronger Darth Malgus at the end of the war than the one at the beginning of the war. Much stronger and more experienced. Personally I think Zallow would have take it in a very narrow victory.

The two additional sith were acolytes, and weren't actually sith, just warriors like clones with lightsabers. And durach Fought two sith LORDS at the same time, killed one, and was then slain. zallow fought malgus 1v1, not with another lord.

I think that Ven Zallow would probably beat Kao Cen Darach, because while Kao was killed by a younger less experienced Malgus, Ven was taken down at the end of the war by a far more experienced version.

Josh Campbell the Battlemaster is proficient in lightsaber combat, sometimes their force abilities are relatively weak (i.e. Sora Bulq).

I don't think that means anything because one could be worse at defending against Malgus, example, Asaj Ventress beat Mace Windu, and Anakin beat Ventress, so according to your logic, Anakin is a better duelist than Windu (well that's arguable for either side)

No Ventress did not beat Mace Windu. Windu whipped her ass and she had to flee. Mace was the only Jedi besides Yoda that was a threat to Palpatine at the time.

***** Vindican, as hinted by Malgus and Ikorai, wasn't very good at fighting. Also, Ven Zallow lasted longer in a one on one than Darach did when Malgus and Darach both had a lightsaber and a saberstaff each.

Ven Zallow fought an older and much more skilled Darth Malgus. Kao Cen Darach died at the beginning of the conflict at the hands of Malgus while he was still an apprentice.

I find it hard to argue, but Darach mainly appears a better Jedi because he took on two master Sith while Zallow only took on one, and they were both slain by the same sith, I think star wars to get more into depth with both these Jedi cause they are both badass

No, the fight only lasted a couple of seconds. Zallow cust down like 5 sith before he even gets to darth malgas. In force abilities it is obviously darach, however, in dueling it is Zallow.

Darach was the Battlemaster of the order at that time so he was proficient in all forms of lightsaber combat. I think any duel with Darach would play out like this: Darach starts out defending against a barrage of attacks from his opponent. After a few minutes of this though, he parries an attack and switches to Vaapad. If the enemy doesn't die then and there, Darach switches to Djem So, defending. His opponent, knowing him to be a battlemaster, mistakes this for Soresu and assumes that it is a pattern of Darach's to switch from Soresu to Vaapad and thinks this is Soresu. Darach finds an opening and takes the offensive surprising his opponent and killing him.

This comparison is based on the SWTOR trailers mostly. I wish we had more information about them. Though based on the trailers, Ven Zallow seems to have a position in the order similar to Mace Windu which is I suppose the highest after Yoda? He is leading the defense in the temple so he might be better than Darach. His style and looks fits the leadership. It would be so cool to have these guys in a movie along with Vitiate and Revan.

It's tough to call, but I give it to Darach as well. He fought two of the best warriors the Sith had to offer at the same time. The amount of coordination it must have taken just wielding the sabers as Kao did in simultaneous offensive and defensive postures must have been extremely taxing, nevermind the acrobatics, and force attacks he threw in. There was so much going on so quickly. By the time he fought Malgus by himself, he must have been either mentally or physically exhausted if not both. A saber staff in one hand and a single blade in the other? Come on.

Honestly, I disagree with your assesment when it comes to Ven Zallow's style. From the video, while he was rather agile in combat. He was capable of meeting Malgus strength to strength. I think he was a highly skilled Djem So and Ataru, so that he could compensate for Djem So's lack of agility and speed.

Durach was a battlemaster, meaning mastery of all seven forms. Durach was also NOT in Zallow's era, he died before Zallow hit his prime, so that logic gives him no edge.

I just wanted to clear something up about Kao Cen. He didn't lose because he was under pressure. He exhausted himself fighting two opponents and then throwing large objects at his Malgus. He drained his ability to predict attacks. Had he not spent all of that energy using such massive force exertions he may have won. But his goal wasn't to win. His goal was to allow Satile Shan to fulfill her destiny.

No. Malgus was in the Sacking of Coruscant, which was the attack that happened after the peace negotiations began. The Sith took Coruscant hostage to get the Republic to sign the treaty in their terms, which were obviously heavily taxing on the Republic and rewarding for the Sith Empire.

I would also say that Ven Zallow uses Ataru simply do to his movements no other form uses so much jumping around, also Aryn Leneer states that she uses a different style than her master and during her duel with Darth Malgus she demonstrated better usage of force powers in combat than Ven, from the duel description I assume her chosen style was Niman as well (like Kao Cen Darach), but she must've been trained in Shi-Cho as a padawan and later in Ataru as well as she said that her master wanted her to adopt the same style as him. Also I assume she learned her exceptional force abilities from her master, just that she was more skilled in using them in combat do to her preferred form. For Kao Cen Darach I assume he trained in all forms but preferred to use Niman as his main form. As for who would win its hard to tell when there is not a great difference or some sort of obvious weakness, either could win and same goes for fighting Malgus on a good day for the Jedi he might've lost. There isn't even a weakness in forms, Ataru is not superior or weaker against Niman and vice versa, like for example Makashi has advantage over Ataru do to big movements and jumps/flips. Or Makashi agaisnt Djem So because it uses one hand ... I'd call it a tie.

Zallow is no pushover, but Darach just seemed to show much greater defensive capability (yes his telekinesis was offensive, but he knew how to use force techniques to try and keep opponents out of saber strike range wherever possible).

lol i agree on that one, I did consider the apparatus, and how that might hinder his physical capabilities, but he is no where near as damaged as someone like Vader was to say that it would bring down his connection to the force. Id say his physical traits such as speed and stamina got a bit lower.

The Malgus that Ven Zallow fought was more powerful that the Malgus that Darach fought with his master. Makes me wonder who’d win if Darach fought prime Malgus 1 on 1 I think that’d be a good matchup

I cannot agree more with you. However I do think a bit of notice needs to be made that Zallow was fighting Darth Malgus that had 20 years of more experience to the one Darach fought.

Darach was also the Battlemaster at the time, meaning he oversaw all the lightsaber training. I feel as if this goes to show his martial ability and explains why he was able to wield both sabers even tho is was difficult feat. Not only was he able to effectively use that technique to counter two powerful Sith but to eliminate a Vindicus, an assumed Sith Lord. Being that he oversaw the lightaber training I assume that he must have at least some knowledge of all know saber styles at the time period.

Kao’s form 4 & 6 mastery would be a little too much for Zallow to handle. Zallow’s a form 4 specialist too, but he doesn’t have anything else to complement it like Kao does…. Kao’s the more passive aggressive style of Niman too, the Revan or Grievous flavor; use whatever element of whatever form you need for whichever situation. And then when they’re not expecting it he’ll switch to pure Ataru and pour it on and cut you down. Kao wins.

They both seem to have the same facial features. This is a good format for characters that don't have a lot of history to research. Its seems like most of your information came from studying the SWTOR videos. I still enjoy the more in-depth videos.

This is a hard one to call really, but I don't think it's as cut and dried as you make it sound. Kao Cen Darach may be tough, and more flamboyant with both his saber technique (dual wielding) and Force powers, but Ven Zallow is just as capable a swordsman and seemed able to deal better with Malgus' attacks, including chained Force attacks. He was also agile enough to not be bothered by objects being hurled at him; taking one of Darach's key "advantages" off the table. I think we would be dealing here with much more of a stalemate or "coin toss" on the day.

I would be curious to see your thoughts on Kenobi vs Sidious, as Yoda did not give him the opportunity to fight him and Yoda was not capable of defeating him, it would be intersting to see a video with your thoughts on such a fight.

But lack of confidence is also a weakness, Durach crumbled under the pressure while Zallow held his ground and showed no signs of fear. He matched Malgus blow for blow till the very end while Durach was overwhelmed. Both fights had an even amount of lightsabers on both sides, 1on 1, 2 on 2,....Malgus does have a breathing apparatus later on, but the real question is how much does it damper his performance? I see little to no changes in aggression, speed or power in his two fights.

I don't think this is fair. Ven Zallow HAD to use the force to make himself industriable, because of the only opponent we saw him against, Malgus, fights like a full fledged powerhouse. We haven't seen them fighting against anybody like each other in any other circumstance. Darach was able to use the terrain during his fight, but Zallow was basically fighting on an open floor. If the circumstances were different, we probably would've seen a lot more skill unknown to us that they had before, because fighting Malgus requires tactics to counter his powerhouse like Shien form.

I wouldve given the decision to Ven Zallow, yes Durach has a greater skill set, but he cracked under the pressure. Zallow handled his composure very well against Malgus, and looked alot stronger in his fight, while Durach ended up being overwhelmed. Zallows Confidence leads me to believe he was a better fighter. But other then this and the Yoda vs Darth vader rant, i think all of your vids have acurate outcomes! Would love to see more in the future!

Ataru isn't just about spins and jumps. It's also about deflecting, parries, and blocking. You can wear an opponent down easily.

Overconfidence is a weakness. And remember, Malgus had some restrictions and only one lightsaber during his fight with Zallow, but had no restrictions against Kao, and was in his prime.

I wonder if you could make sometimes like Versus series with players characters from KotOR, KotOR 2 and SW:TOR - your fans would describe their characters, skills, builds, maybe background story and decision tendencies (f.e. always kills sith without even asking them to surrender) and you'd be the judge. Would be interesting, even as I don't have much hopes you'd do it - that would be very difficult, not to mention that people would have to make screenshots and stuff (which many would forget :).

I'm sure that you would be correct in this assumption. Ut would seem that Dark Malgus was just as forth coming but killed the master Jedi still. If Ven Zallow could keep a cool head n adapt then will Ven lose just because of how much he used his force powers in combat is unknown? I think further depth to prove Ven would lose is essential. To sur come to pressure is a great weakness

Hi, I'm in love with your versus series and love what you know about the franchise. I have recently been watching videos of Kotor 2, being unable to play it currently. So, I would truly enjoy a video with Darth Nihilus. His character is interesting and I know little of him. I would love to see your views on him.

I believe Ven Zallow would win because of his experience wielding a regular lightsaber. It took Durach 2 lightsabers to defeat a saberstaff wielding Vindican which should have gave Durach a quick 10 second victory regarding his skills and also saying vindican was weaker than malgus. it still took durach a long time regarding his "lightsaber skills" to defeat durach. Zallow on the other hand was a good match for malgus and met almost all of his strikes blow for blow without another lightsaber and still was owning malgus for the majority of the battle. I also feel that Zallow barely lost to an older, more experienced malgus whild durach lost quickly to a weaker and less experienced malgus. regarding lightsaber techniques, I saw a lot of 4 in each but saw some 6 in both fighting styles as mentioned in the video with zallow for more tanky "upgrades" and durach for offensive combat. I feel zallows use of 4 was better but durachs use of 6 was better. I would also give zallow the edge in dueling as thought durach had some offense and defense, zallow had more offense as well as his tanky attributes. for these reasons, I feel zallow would be the winner.
